Summary: Zack takes the new recruit under his wing when a group of seasoned SOLDIERS want to have a little fun with him.
Prompt: #18. Final Fantasy VII, Zack/Cloud: Public displays of affection - 'what is with you and molesting me in public?'
“Forty-eight hours,” the commander boomed, his eyes scouring the group of soldiers lined up before him. “You aren’t back in your bunks by then, you’re AWOL.” His scowl turned to a glower. “And, you don’t want to be going AWOL on my command.”
He waited a breath, for effect before turning on his heel and marched back inside the troop carrier. Slipping his arms through the shoulder straps of his backpack, Cloud scrambled off the street, looking for the first alley he could find.
Too late.
One of the SOLDIERS stepped in front of him, blocking his way. It wasn’t that the dark-skinned man was that much bigger than he was, but his muscles had muscles and the body armor he wore made him look even larger. “Where you going in such a hurry, recruit?”
Cloud stepped back, right into a sergeant even bigger than the man blocking his way. “You wouldn’t be trying to avoid us again, would you?”
A bevy of beauties gathered on the sidewalk, giggling as they watched the SOLDIERS gang up on him.
“Lay off him, shithead.”
Cloud recognized the voice. Guy called himself Zack. He’d met him in the mountains during the last mission.
“What?” the first man laughed. “You got your eyes on him, Zack?”
The men laughed, sounding more like a gaggle of hens than the women on the sidewalk. Cloud felt warmth creep into his cheeks. No matter where he went, these men followed as if they were determined to make his life miserable, to catch every screw-up, to make sure he was never accepted into SOLDIER.
The man behind him groaned, but Cloud resisted the urge to glance over his shoulder and leave himself open to attack from the front. He’d made that mistake the last time they’d had time off. He’d ended up naked a mile from the carrier and had to walk back alone, humiliated in front of the town and his entire battalion.
“Come on.” The voice ticked his ear, stirred his hair. A strong hand wrapped around his arm, tugging him backwards. “Let’s get you out of here.”
He turned to the sound of curses and jeers to find Zack grinning down at the man he’d downed.
“I’ll get you, Fair,” the red-head jeered. His eyes darted to Cloud. “Better keep a hand on your prize, or you’ll end up losing him in one of these dark alleys.”
Zack’s grin deepened. With a mock salute, he turned to hurry up the road, leaving Cloud to fend for himself.
“Hey!” Cloud called after him. “Wait up! I thought...”
“You mine for the night?” Zack laughed. “Somehow, you didn’t strike me as the type.”
Cloud grimaced. He’d seen Zack with a girl and a real pretty girl at that. He couldn’t imagine the SOLDIER interested in men, too. “What’s up with that anyway?”
“Dick sizing.” He watched Cloud for expression. “You know, claiming territory. Sheesh, you really are green, aren’t you?”

Cloud didn’t stop looking over his shoulder until they’d been inside the Gold Saucer an hour. By that time, he was captivated with the lights and sounds, the people of every race and size, colors and sights and smells beyond his wildest dreams. He felt like a little kid tagging along at Zack’s side, but to his surprise, the SOLDIER didn’t seem to mind.
“First time?” the older man asked, giving him a sidelong glance.
Cloud nodded. “I didn’t even know a place like this existed.”
“Everybody knows about the Gold Saucer.” He frowned, looking Cloud up and down. “What side of the barn did you say you were born in?”
“Hey,” Cloud protested, but Zack grabbed his arm, jerking him forward just as his eyes locked with those of the men who had ridiculed him earlier.
“Damn.” The word was little more than an exhale through clenched teeth. Zack’s eyes scoured the room; his expression grew dark.
Cloud couldn’t help but notice that they’d slowly been surrounded. How long the other men had been stalking them, there was no way to tell.
“Only one way out of this.” Zack grinned suddenly.
The uneasiness growing in the pit of his stomach turned to nausea. Surely they wouldn’t start a fight with so many innocent people around. Cloud gasped as the SOLDIERS approached.
Before he knew what was happening, Zack had grabbed him by the straps of his backpack and jerked him forward. Their lips met with a noisy smack, warm and wet. Strong hands reached around behind him, fingering his ass.
Cloud jumped like he’d been goosed, but when he opened his mouth to protest, Zack’s tongue darted inside to tickle the roof of his mouth and draw his own tongue forward. Flapping his arms like some grounded bird attempting take-off, Cloud tried to pull free, his eyes searching the crowd, fearful that someone he knew would see them.
“Settle down,” Zack whispered in his ear. His tongue skimmed the outer rim of Cloud’s ear before darting inside.
Cloud squirmed as a little burst of pleasure stirred in the pit of his stomach and descended into his groin.
“Unless you want one up the ass, buddy,” Zack laughed, “you’re stuck with me. At least I’m harmless.”
Cloud swallowed his pride, though he could still feel the slow burn in his cheeks, and allowed Zack to capture his hand. Intertwining fingers, they darted into the crowd.

“You okay?”
Cloud startled. “Huh?”
Aeris smiled up at him with the hint of concern in her eyes. “I asked if you were okay.”
“Yeah, I just...” Someone pinched his ass from behind. He jumped, freeing his hand from Aeris’ as he turned.
There was no one behind him, not a soul anywhere near them.
Warm and wet, a tongue dipped deep into his ear. Cloud stuck his finger in, wiping away the slime. “That’s just gross,” he whispered.
Shaking his head, he captured Aeris’ hand. The air stirred around them and she smiled.
Cloud ventured one last look over his shoulder as they headed toward the elevator. The air shimmered before it settled into a hazy form. The lips peeled back into a grin and Zack gave him a thumbs up.
“What is it with you,” Cloud whispered when his friend vanished, “and molesting me in public?”
