I had a houseguest last night named Hope.

I had a houseguest last night named Hope. I picked her up in Fairfax VA, kept her overnight, and then took her to Baltimore (Catonsville near BWI) this morning. I was driving for http://ruralshelterhelp.blogspot.com/ -- a loose confederation put together weekly by the amazing, seemingly tireless dynamo Erin Silks. The dogs come from shelters in the south, usually South Carolina, to waiting rescues in the northeast. Some SC shelters have ongoing relationships with NE rescues.

Here's me an' her at the dropoff point this morning. She looks much cuter in real life than in her shelter picture. They always do.

The next person in the human transport chain took her to Newark. Her final destination is a rescue in NY. Well, actually her final destination will be a home and family!

Hope was the easiest guest! They think she's a corgi mix. She's only 25 lbs. As so many of these dogs are, she's amazing. She's nervous about being picked up, but if you sit on the floor she'll lick you and cuddle. She quickly went from being wary to being certain she deserved all the pets she was getting. She ate a lot too. She wasn't sure about Rufus when he kept following her around ans sniffing her butt in the backyard, so I didn't introduce her to my other dogs. However, this morning at the pickup site, she wanted to play with the other dogs. Maybe because they were smaller than Rufus (he's 95 lbs).
