So as I've posted before I have bad nightmares almost every night. Yesterday I was up at 7 a.m. because I had a nightmare where I was part of some form of community that was slowly becoming monsters. There was some group of people there offering them awesome things that kept them there and busy. One guy who'd always wanted to be an actor was practicing to be the lead in a play and got to wear a costume he loved. For me they had some crazy totally immersive video game. But I was wise to their ways and after playing the game once decided I was done and they got really angry and told me I had to play more. Meanwhile in a sort of cutscene I saw that five people who hadn't succumbed yet were sleeping and looming over them were these different monstrous creatures, including one that just seemed to be an embodiment of the person's shadow. Then things sort of cut to the actor guy who was looking in the mirror practicing his lines when he saw part of his skin had become translucent blue and I got a glimpse inside him where something was changing him. Then I went to visit another guy. When I walked in he had his back to me and warned me off that we shouldn't hang out because he wasn't feeling well, something in his lungs. When he turned to face me I saw his face was becoming something reptilian, wider than it should be with a more prominent mouth and his nose having retreated into his face. That's when I woke up and of course couldn't go back to sleep because that's when the monsters get you.
This morning my nightmare caused me to flail and yell out around 6 a.m. until Kevin woke me. There was a lot of complicated anxiety going on but the point and which I started yelling was someone was eating my salad. I was just trying to have dinner and there was this nice looking spread at the table with salad and olives and bread and other sides but every time I looked away some waiter was taking the food away. First Kev and I both had salads. Then we agreed we'd just share a salad. Then while I was trying to get the sides back someone else sat down at my place and started eating my salad. So while Kevin said I was just making noise, what I was yelling in my dream was "Don't eat my salad!"
The moral of this story: Horrifying monster transformations are scary but do not cause me to react nearly so violently as someone taking away my food.
