All cats love a good laser pointer

Kev and I went to ZooLights tonight, an annual event put on by Lincoln Park Zoo between Thanksgiving and New Years. The zoo stays open late and trees are covered by dancing lights and there are tons of lit up animals around. The most clever this year was a dragon that breathed fire in the direction of some trees that would react by lighting up increasing chunks in red and orange. There were also big strips of light that would change to music.

The place was more packed tonight than I've ever seen it. This was mostly nice, with tons of families enjoying the weather and animals together. But it also tends to bring out ass holes. One guy kept trying to persuade a friend to throw something at a sleeping reindeer. Another kept flashing his camera at the poor bats.

But someone had a harmless and truly inspired idea to shine a laser pointer into the sand cat's cage. For those who have not heard me gush about them before, sand cats are desert cats about the size of house cats but with very large heads. And like any good cat it was wild for the laser pointer, chasing it all around its enclosure. It was pretty damn adorable.
