2) I wouldn't sweat it too hard. It was only a few years ago that Disney said they were getting out of cel animation entirely because that wasn't what the people want anymore. Look how long that lasted. The turnover at studios is massive, and the next guy always knows better than the last guy. If "Tangled" makes a mint, someone will immediately begin rethinking whether princess movies are still popular and whether they should make another one.
3) The massive, MASSIVE successful marketing of Disney-princess-branded crap utterly belies the "little girls no longer want to be princesses" thing. I will believe Disney is actually out of the princess game when 50% of the Disney Store isn't Disney Princesses dolls and costumes and tiaras and yadda yadda.
4) As a kid, I always deeply resented the fact that no matter how cool or strong or adventurous the female lead was, at the end of the movie, the man would save her. ALWAYS. I'm entirely fine with getting away from that stereotype. It doesn't necessitate getting rid of princesses.
