I'm reading an interesting book right now set in the mid-1800's about a guy who was told that he was dying of consumption and had six months to live(Bucking the Tiger by Bruce Olds). Of course, the only reason there's a book about him is because he lived for many years after that. It's written a really odd style; not a pure narrative, but more of a modern feeling to it. Choppy, foggy, more like vignettes than an actual story. It's got some interesting psychology of how this guy incorporated the disease into his life- and how it changed him.

Some pages,  "chapters"  I guess you could call them, are simply quotes that deal with death. Most of them are pretty good, and here are some of the better ones that I've read so far:

You didn't know that death is beautiful
And it was made in your body
    -Claudio Rodriguez

There are riches that await those intent upon their going
for the sake of nothing more
than someday being
gone
    -Bruce Olds

he was a handsome man
and what i want to know is
how do you like your blueeyed boy
Mister Death
    -ee cummings

I thought that they were interesting enough to share. More interesting, at least, than the pile of AP reviews that will make up the next three or four hours before I go to bed.

ap tests, books, quotes
