Verizon confused me today.
I was pretty sure I was eligible for an upgrade in May (called New Every 2 - discounted phone at the end of a 2 year contract when you renew), however today when I went to check my account it said I could get my new discounted phone today.
I got all excited and made plans to visit the Verizon store, but when I went back on the website to compare Verizon's 4G phone with the iPhone 4, it said I was eligible on May 8. I was taken aback, but figured I could go to the store and talk to them and have them take care of me a couple weeks earlier. Switching to the iPhone means a higher monthly bill which is money they would want now versus later, amirite?
No Iamnot. I went and they said because of how strict they are about giving up iPhones, I would have to wait until May 8 to get my $50 discount on it, and avoid a $20 early contract termination -- even though I would be upgrading and renewing... I dunno, I don't get it but policy is policy and they exist for a reason, I say.
So instead of spending $219 on a 16GB iPhone today, I can spend $249 on a 32GB iPhone in a week and some change. Do I need that much space? I guess I'll have to figure out a way to use it. Photos and videos. And add more music I always unchecked when I had an 8GB iPhone like Alanis Morissette and Ashlee Simpson.
Oh, and can I say how hilarious it is that the drag queen Ms. Lady Chablis is, as a man, some kind of Verizon representative at the downtown store? I first saw him there when I was standing in line with Max when he was waiting for the iPhone launch for Verizon and kept wondering if it was him, and later someone confirmed it.
Today while at the store, I went to a log in computer and pulled up my information and waited for some assistance, and Mr. Lady Chablis came up, opened his mouth, and I kind of shied away and so he closed his mouth and moved on. Maybe he sees me up on the dance floor Wednesday night and watches me as I walk away to go somewhere else when he comes on stage.
