You've got to just love an argument when you know you deliver such a good point you render the other person without a response.

When my now-ex Max was staying with my roommates and me a couple months ago, he agreed to pay rent even though I felt it was unneccessary. He stayed a month and my roommates thought he should pay for part if he was to stay here. I thought it was a bit petty of them but for whatever reason they have, that's fine. He agreed to pay.
While he was still here, my roommates, who apparently are never good with confrontation, wrote on the white board that they received the bills for electricity and water and what it would cost to be divided among the 4 of us. It was extremely confusing the way it was written so we wrote back that it would be nice to have some clarification.
Basically the point that came across is we received the utility bill and we were going to split it up in 4 but he never explained how his math worked so Max never got around to paying it.

Yesterday Brandon, the other roommate, texted me (again, never in person for some reason), asking if I was going to pay for that extra amount in the utilities that Max never paid. I had forgotten about it, so I questioned that I thought he moved past it and we were all going to pay everything evenly -- among the 3 remaining roommates.
He texted back and said this was from the bill from when Max was staying and it was significantly higher than it normally is.
I pointed out that if we received it while Max was here, then that bill would have been from the time period from before he moved in. If it's higher than normal, then that is probably because Ally, the other roommate, turns the heat on constantly in the living room and her bedroom and leaves them both on while she's asleep and while she's at work, and turns the heat on while she has the fireplace going as well, and leaves the balcony door open while she goes out for a smoke.
After making that point, he never texted me back. He's smart. He knows a bill that comes in February while Max was staying in February would not be for the electricity that was being used in February. Was he trying to pull a fast one on me to get $57 out of me that I don't deserve to pay?
