Entitlement whoa
So today there are two articles on the paper online. The first: IU has tuition increase, no pay raises. The second: Ivy Tech too, tuition increases, no pay raises.
There are 90 (NINETY) comments on the IU article, most of them IU staff, going WAAAAH IU TREATS US SO BAD, PARKING IS SO EXPENSIVE! THEY PAY FACULTY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! I ONLY GOT A 37 CENT RAISE LAST YEAR! IT’S A PAY CUT! PARKING! PARKING! STAFF ARE MARYTRS FACULTY SUCK WAAAAAH IT’S A SALARY CUT IU IS SATAN! And it’s only 9:20am. I expect 200 comments by day’s end.
There are 0 (zero) comments under the Ivy Tech article. And I promise, we are paid less than them. Our adjuncts are paid about $10 an hour if you include prep and grading… and that’s if you grade fast. Parking? When the semester starts we have to park in a factory parking lot down and across the street. Several of us got locked out last year when they gated and locked the factory parking lot before we left work. And OMG, 37 cent raise? My husband got a 12 cent raise this year. STFU.
IU staff are making a very public display of their entitlement issues. Ivy Tech staff are making a less public display of our professionalism. I’ll try to remember to copy and paste some of the gems that are posted on the webs before I go home.
