I can write a song, but I can't sing in key

--The Perfect Fit, The Dresden Dolls.

Now, it's possible that I'm a bad Dresden Dolls fan, or a bad Voltaire fan, or just plain a bad goth*... but I really wish Voltaire had chosen someone other than Amanda Palmer for the duet in "Stuck With You" (available for your listening pleasure here). Now, it's a well composed song, and Palmer's vocals are growing on me (although I still don't love them), but the first time I heard this track my first thought was an instantaneous recollection of the above Dolls lyric.

I don't notice it in the already dissonant Dolls songs, but Amanda Palmer really can't sing in key. I really love the music and the lyrics and Voltaire's vocals on this track, though, so I just keep listening to it over and over again. As I said, her vocals are growing on me, but I think I might just be getting used to them. Still... I think I'd rather have heard Holly Brewer or Siouxsie Sioux or someone other than Palmer singing this duet with Voltaire.

*I realized this past weekend that I seem to be viewed as one of the token goths among my Pastimes friends, a notion which highly amuses me. While I've always been drawn to a bit of darkness in my fashion and music it always surprises me a little when someone else comments on my "goth" appearance or tendencies. It's a compliment I suppose--certainly the people whose styles I admire and emulate are people that I consider goth. I just never really think of myself as really being a goth, and so, am always a little surprised when other people think that I am.
