Well, we managed to make it through the ice/snow storm relatively unscathed; at least, no loss of power, which was the biggest fear. There was a glimmer of fear on Friday when the lights kept flickering, but thank Jebus they didn’t go off and we stayed nice and toasty warm and never lost the tv and satellite. We ended up with between 6 and 8 inches of snow depending on where you stuck the ruler in the back yard (of course, there were some areas of drifting that were well over a foot). The dogs loved it (even Gus this time!) and kept wanting to go out and the come in, then go out and come in… I was worried about my floors because they were just covered in little balls of snow, so we had to keep grabbing them and putting them in the bathroom every time they came in until they dried off; they did not appreciate that.
I pretty much stayed in the house all weekend, venturing out to the store on Saturday night to buy some junk food, but other than that, I didn’t even get out of my jammies on Sunday. I did go out and take my turn at shoveling the sidewalk and driveway on Saturday (figured it would be a good way to burn some calories). Oh my gosh, what a difference putting down a layer of salt rock made to getting that ice up! The Christmas Eve ice/snow storm was a huge headache, basically trying to chip away at the ice was a nightmare, but this time, the shovel slide right underneath and the ice came up no problem. We will always use salt from now on (in the front only, I worry what the salt would do to my floors if we were to put salt on the patio and let the dogs track it everywhere).
On Sunday, I realized I only have 6 weeks left of my 30’s, which means I only have 6 weeks left to get into the shape I said I was going to get into by the time I turn 40. Since I had gotten out and did the snow shoveling thing on Saturday, I started some basic exercising on Sunday; today, I am feeling it all over (but especially the muscles in my back from the shoveling). I am also going to start doing a 10 - 15 minute walk around the halls everyday at work; I used to do this at my old job with my mom every morning and afternoon, but that building was a lot more walker-friendly than this one. I wish the fitness club we used to belong to weren’t being such crooks so I could go there and workout, but I refuse to join it again.
Off to eat my afternoon snack… an orange. What I really want is a bag of salt & vinegar chips.
