Apparently, we are getting ready to get hit with a major winter storm; a storm so horrible that they were specifically mentioning Tulsa on CNN this morning.  I have a bad feeling about this; they didn’t get this worked up for our last ice storm, the one that left us without power for four days and others without power for several weeks.

The last time we had an ice storm, we were unprepared, we lost power, had only candles and a decorative gas fireplace that doesn’t really produce much heat; we ended up camping on my parent’s couch for several nights.

This time, we are prepared; we have purchased a generator; Tommie is filling up gas cans on his way home from work in case we have to resort to that.  I am going to stop at the store on the way home to buy a few things food-wise that will be easy to cook on the stove top and another bag of ice melt if I can find it.  Tommie is also stopping at Atwoods on the way home to purchase a propane heater, one that will run off the same little propane tank that runs the gas grill in the summer.  If we lose power, we will block off the hallways with blankets and will only need to heat the three main rooms; between the propane heater and the fireplace, we will be okay.  I have tons of candles, and the generator will run some lamps, but more importantly, the generator will run the tv, satellite and router; if I’m going to be freezing, I have to have something to keep me entertained.  We are also going to air up the queen-sized air mattress and stick it out of the way just in case we need to sleep in the living room any of the nights (Tommie has a large air compressor in the garage that will fill that thing up in lightening time).

Oh, did I mention that not only could we get up to 3 inches of ice, but we could then get 6-12 inches of snow on top of that?  Of course, now they are saying only about ½ to 1 inch of ice and still about 12 inches of snow…
