TTOTD: Do NOT install WDK 6000 with DTM Client 6000

Feb 19, 2007 21:27

Oh dear. Much tearing of hair at Microsoft's LogoFest today. They had kindly proved everyone with at least one DTM Controller (a PC running Windows Server 2003 and SQL) and one DTM Client (a PC running Windows Vista Enterprise) so we could get started straight away. I got started, and errors ensued. I called for help, and a Microsoft guy turned up who then took serious umbrage that I hadn't gone to his presentation on DTM fault finding because I was too busy trying to just get it started. He didn't find our fault.

I was getting a file error of 1025 "Unknown error (0x401)", which I couldn't find documented anywhere either.

Right at the end of the day, about 4:45pm another Microsoft guy came by to ask if we were using the provided test PCs. Yes, we were, and we were having problems. He then said the people who had imaged them and installed everything and the kitchen sink, including the Windows Driver Kit, and we should uninstall that and start again.

Sure enough, the driver tests started working.

DTM comes on the same disk as the Windows Driver Kit, so the possibility of this error is high. Be warned!
