Hey guys, I have been antsy to chat about some new developments in the Trek and Spuhura world, and could wait no longer, so here I am.
[Spoiler (click to open)]Saw the new trailer, loved it. But, after watching it about a thousand times, I have started to do some analyzing. For a long time now, I (and i think all of us) have been worried about the fate of our couple. While I myself never worried about a breakup, I did worry that something much more sinister could happen to Spock or Uhura. Now, I know that it seems quite unlikely that ST09 could go forward to the third movie without Spock or Uhura, but when you are talking about the people that destroyed Vulcan and Amanda Grayson...I put nothing past the mad geniuses in charge.
I got to thinking, I know that prevailing wisdom is that IF anything, something will happen to Spock, but what if the twist is that something happens to Uhura. It would be heart-wrenching if he lost his mother and turned around and lost her too...but then can you imagine the third one. Spock would be a BAMF, and there would be no force in the universe that could stop his rage.
Anyway, if you watch this video, there is a distinct lack of Uhura on the bridge, even when the rest of the crew is up there. I doubt she was sent on a mission by herself. Look at :59, "Let's go get..." That's clearly not Uhura at the Communications console. Where is she? But, there's more. Now, look at 1:18, Spock looks as worried/upset as a half-Vulcan can look. Now, fast forward to 1:25. It is showing Kirk turning around, and it is the same scene, you can tell by the locations and placement of all the crew members there. But, Spock is nowhere to be seen. Has Spock took off somewhere? Or was this before Spock got there? Then, we have Kirk saying he's sorry, which admittedly could be some editing misdirection, but it is coming from the same general area he would have been in that scene so it could be all one scene too. Was he saying he was sorry to Spock and not the whole crew? And again, where did Spock go?
Then, we have this piece which brings up all sorts of confusion in my heart. This does make it seem like they both make it through okay, or at least alive.
But, her quote about TOS threw me for a major loop. Not only does it spell disaster for Spock and Uhura, but it goes far beyond just them. Does she not understand the concept of Alternate Reality, or did she just reveal a major spoiler, basically that this series is all leading up to some sort of resolution that gets them back on track with the TOS timeline? If that's the truth, that is a huge spoiler, and I cannot imagine that Abrams and Co would be all that thrilled with that knowledge being made public. At the same time, Zoe doesn't seem so dense that she would say something like that without knowing what she is talking about.
