It's been a very busy and fun couple of weeks. I can't remember the last time I stayed so consistently busy with actual fun and not just work. And thankfully, there doesn't seem to be an end to it in the near future. Mostly for my own reference, but also in the event that anyone may want to join me for anything, this is what I'll be doing for ( Read more... )

I'm not sure if we've ever discussed it before, but you should be aware that it is not an actual con per se. It's just a bunch of con-folks who go to NOLA on the same weekend every year to enjoy each other's company, the weather, and of course, the city we all love so much. It's just LIKE a con, but without a centralized hotel or organized activities. The best part, though, is that we're ALL guests! :)

As far as sharing a room goes, I don't plan to be spending any nights alone while I'm there. I have a number of lady friends in the area (and I just made a new one last weekend) so I don't think sharing a room is very feasible. I can recommend a number of decent (and convenient) French Quarter hotels, but I'd recommend making a reservation soon. Believe it or not, even that non-holiday weekend tends to book up quickly... mostly with wedding parties, for some reason.

FYI, most of us are staying at the Maison Dupuy (on Toulouse Between Burgundy and N. Rampart), but it is already sold out, so I'd play it safe and go ahead and book something. You can always cancel the reservation later.

Incidentally, if you don't mind being a few blocks away, many of the hotels on Canal Street and surrounding areas (Sheraton, Hyatt -- if it ever re-opened, Doubletree, JW Marriott, Clarion, and whatever the old Radisson is called now) work well with Priceline.com. I've stayed in a number of them for like $50/night using that service. It's definitely worth a shot.
