Sam/Dean, gen search: slow-burn best friends
I've been looking for just over a week now for a Sam/Dean AU that I've had on my mind for a long time.
What I'd really like to see is either a non-brother AU or separated-and-adopted!brothers AU (hell, they could even be step-brothers): Sam and Dean meeting each other as kids, growing up together, being as close as brothers. I think I'd prefer them living down the street from one another or Bobby raising one of them, but whatever works in the end. So they grow up best friends, getting together to play all the time, etc., but as they grow older, they start to realise maybe they feel a little more for each other than they initially expected. Sam and Dean end up circling each other, wanting but being too afraid. They can either get together as teens or as adults, they can be hunters/have supernatural elements or not, they can date other people or not, they can be the same age, as long as they grow up best friends and struggle with their feelings for a long time.
