J2 recs for May

May 21, 2013 15:12

For this month's recs, I've picked mostly oldies but goodies, and they are all J2. Next month I am planning to do all spn to make up for it. Here are the goodies I've particularly enjoyed this month.

1: Ours is a Reciprocal Gravitation Orbit, by viridescence

Jared has an imaginary friend. His imaginary friend takes him through childhood and into college, but somewhere along the line he finds that he's spoiled for real relationships.

I just finished reading this, and I loved it for being such a different premise. I'd have liked to see it as an even longer story, with exploration into how it happened, but it's great as it stands, and it scores points for an absolutely epic Chad!

2: And Her Lips Were Cherry Red , by jeyhawk

Jared is a psychic, and because of past work with the FBI he's estranged from his partner, Jensen. Will they be able to get past their differences once a murderer starts targeting people who are close to Jared?

This is actually a sequel to a much shorter story of Jeyhawk's called Heaven's Just a Sin Away. Go read that one first. It's sweet.

3: Ghost in the Halls, by jaimeykay

Jared becomes a starship captain at a really young age, when his mentor is injured. His new ship has an awesome crew, but Jared somehow hasn't ever been very good at following orders when his conscience tells him something's wrong.

I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi, and Jensen as the Spock-like character in this really worked for me. I also liked that the aliens made Jared feel like a tiny little man!

4: In Retrospect, by jasmasson

Secret agent fic. Jensen has been trained as a fighting machine, and he's never really had any friends, or a life, until he's partnered with Jared and falls for him. He's starting to adjust to his new life, when it's all ripped away from him and he has to run.

This is one of my favorite stories, and I go back to it again and again. The relationship between Jared and Jensen is adorably snarky and they are definitely experts at secret agenty stuff. This story is a delight.

5: One for the Good guys, by deaconfic

Jared was an up and coming pitcher who blotted his copybook and is trying to make his way back into the big leagues again. Unfortunately that means that he has to work with Jensen Ackles, a catcher who is a complete bitch.

I love Bitchy!Jensen in this story, and although I know very little about baseball I found it really intriguing.

6: Life is Fragile: Handle With Care, by dontknowmyname and blueeyedliz

Jensen is a rebellious bad boy, who runs the risk of expulsion from School. He's offered an out if he joins the drama group for their spring play. He meets Jared, the pastor's son, and is drawn into a friendship he'd never expected to experience. Things are too good, something just has to go wrong...

The angst in this one is incredible, and if you're into angst, this is one of the best.

7: The Date 'Verse, by sinnerforhire

Jared is a postal worker; Jensen is in a wheelchair. This is the story of how they met and got together. There are 26 short stories here that build into an arc that shows how they adjust to each other and learn to cope with Jensen's disability.

The character of Jensen is suffering from Spina Bifida. This is a sweet story which pairs up two overtly together men who actually both have desperate needs. It may not be for everybody, but I liked it for the way it showed the boys adjusting to each other without overly sentimental rhetoric clouding the issues they face.

8: The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot, by alakewood

Jared and Jensen become best friends after Jensen's family moves into the area. Unfortunate events cause them to become estranged, and as they become further and further apart, it seems that they won't ever be able to rekindle their former friendship.

It takes a while to get the two of them together, but it's a lovely ending, and really nicely written.

9: The Inscription, by alienat

There's a serial killer out and active in New York City. Jensen is the detective assigned to the case and he's faced with a problem, because it's obvious that the killer is taunting Jared Padalecki, a former detective who left the force after his sister was murdered. Can Jensen persuade him to help, or will the killer continue to kill unhindered?

This is a very neatly executed suspense fic, and I was on the edge of my seat til the very end.

10: Until You're Resting Here With Me, by nyxocity

Dr. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki had an affair that ended badly. Now, Jensen has been trapped in time, 12 years in his past, and he's got an opportunity to start over, but he can't remember what happened. Will history repeat itself, or can Jensen make things work?

Nyxocity always writes beautiful romance along with her raunch, and this is no exception. Based on Quantum Leap, this is a really awesome J2 take on the old favorite and features a bonus awesome Chad!
