Squeezing in before February ends with the last of my pre-2010 fic recs. This batch are all J2 fics.
It’s been a pleasure reccing for you this month, I apologise for not having more frequent posts up.

Three Grams, by
frostianYear: 2009
Rating, pairing and warnings: R; J2; violence, main character death
Word Count: 37,000+
Summary:Jared Padalecki’s closest friend is Jensen, a hybrid doll he rescued as a child. As they grow up, Jensen takes on the role of tutor and mentor, preparing Jared for the arduous task of entering a prestigious tech in order to continue his father’s tremendous legacy. But the greatest lesson is one that can only be learned, not taught, as Jared realizes that just because a creature isn't made of flesh and blood does not mean it can't have a soul.
The summary pretty much says it all. This story is excellently put together, the world beautifully built, and the ending very much worth it.
Beholder, by
sandymgYear: 2010
Rating, pairing and warnings: NC-17; J2 (also with Jared/Sandy); Mild violence. Mention of past abuse. Adult content.
Word Count: 80,000+.
Summary: Jared was passionate about the work he did with the animal shelter. Between that and living with Sandy, life was satisfactory. Until the cold night that the filthy, homeless man hidden in an oversized hoodie was dumped at the shelter and Jared couldn't just turn him out. Even if the man roared and called himself 'Beast.' Because under the hood, Jared was sure he caught a glimpse of a prince in those green eyes.
Oh, this story. THIS STORY. I’m cheating slightly since this is a 2010 fic, but it’s so worth the cheat.
sandymg has put out some incredible stories, but this is definitely one of the best. It’s heartwarming and evocative, with that touch of magic you aren’t sure is real or not, but desperately want it to be.
As This Sunset Turns to Morning, by
_mournthewickedYear: 2009
Rating, pairing and warnings: NC-17; J2; religious themes, angst (teen related), issues of homophobia (religiously related)
Word Count: ~86,000
Summary: Jensen spends his life hiding who he is from the family that would never accept him if they knew. When he’s uprooted in the middle of his senior year and suddenly becomes the new kid, his carefully placed mask begins to slip. Especially when he meets Jared - a loud, outspoken spectacle of a boy that fights for everything Jensen was taught to stand against. Jared has no problem going after what he wants, and now it’s just a matter of Jensen letting himself do the same.
If I was only allowed to rec one fic ever, this would probably be it. I read it about twice a year, and each time fall in love with it all over again. It’s a classic coming-of-age story, about learning who you are and learning how to love yourself. Everything about this story, from the plot to the characters to the way you can’t help but be totally involved, is perfect.
The Doors of Time, by
felisblancoYear: 2009
Rating, pairing and warnings: PG-13 (part 1), NC-17 (part 2); J2, with Jared Sandy and Jensen/OMC; some mentions of abusive situations
Word Count: ~186,000
Summary: It’s not like he doesn’t try to fit in and make friends, he really does. It just seems like nothing he does is good enough for them. If he smiles they blink. If he speaks they stare. And whenever they see him coming they get this panicked look in their eyes like they want to run away and they don’t even know why.
Jensen knows why. It’s the same thing that makes his dad worry and his mom cry. That makes Nana tell his parents he’s going to Hell, not even caring that he can hear her. It’s what makes him ‘weird’.
This fic is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. You know when you meet a person and they touch your life as if they were magic? This is all about that. From the very first sentence you are captivated until the end. I don’t know how else to say read this fic except for READ THIS FIC.
