Demons have long been integral to the SPN arc, as foes and uneasy allies, and the striking black - or yellow, or red, or white - possessed eyes are a striking indicator of these creatures. And this striking effect has been used very well on familiar characters throughout the series - it's so jarring and fascinating to see a familiar character

Yaaaaay! My theory is that he was the real Christian in 6.01 and got possessed sometime between 6.01 and 6.02. In 6.01, he was a little condescending, but in 6.02 he was downright mean to Dean.
