Hi. My name is Sarah and I’m thrilled missyjack asked to be the vidder this month on Ask the Vidder. If there’s something I enjoy as much as vidding, it’s talking about it. So please ask me questions!

I’ve made just over 30 vids in the SPN fandom and they are listed here if you want to check any of them out ( Read more... )

I love opening my editor to a blank timeline.
Best feeling in the world ;)

While others would like a beta to talk about every aspect of the vid from top to bottom.
+1 I guess I love speaking about my video, though I don't have my beta. I'd like to but i guess there's just no such person in the world who can stand me with all my videos *roll eyes*

So, my question is about the music. You can vid ANYthing - angst, funny crack videos, wincest even (ok, I'm still surprised :D), and of course you used in your videos all kinds of music. So how usually you pick up the song? Do you search for the specific kind of music when you have an idea? Or, maybe, you listen to the music and then you heard something and you're like "oh, i wanna vid it!"? Do you pay more attention on the music (beats, instrumentals, etc.) or to the lyrics? I'm kinda interesting because for me, I think< the music is more important than the idea. You know, there's these songs that can "drag out" the video, the idea. Just because the song is so cool by default lol Anyway, I like "interesting music" so I can play with effects, try to "show the music" you know? ow are you about it? Do you like this kind of music? Or do you like something simplier? :)

Thanks in advance ^^

Hi Loki!

Great question. Thank you.

In most cases I hear a song and and it's "oh, I wanna vid that!" I love it when that happens. I then listen to the song a heap of times before I decide if it's something I think I could make a vid to. The lyrics play a huge role if I want to tell a story. But I always try to work with the beat as well or rather the "rhythm and flow" of the music. I do like songs with a strong beat. For me it makes editing a lot easier. :D

Occasionally I have an idea and I have to go searching for a song. "Take me to the Hospital" is a good example of this. I wanted to make a hurt!boys vid and I needed to find a song I could use. It took quite a while to find the right song.

I like "interesting music" so I can play with effects, try to "show the music" you know?

Yeah. And it's something you do incredibly well. I have never used purely instrumental music to tell a story. (Man! I have enough trouble trying to tell a story with lyrics). That might just have to be on my list of challenges....

I also like to use "popular" songs. Songs that viewers can connect to - especially if it's crack, or a bit of fun. I also think it can be fun to turn a well known song on its head. I also think people like listening to songs they know.

I'm ALWAYS on the look out for songs....almost every time I hear a song I wonder if I can vid to it. I heard a song in a documentary recently called "Trouble always finds me" and I was like "Oh this would make a great vid....!"

So, now I have to ask... What about you? You make an incredible amount of vids. Where does your constant inspiration come from? Does the song come first or the idea? For me it's a mix of both. I've just made a pretty full on vid so I know I want my next project to be fun and not as difficult. I think I make a variety of styles because I try not to make the same type of vid one after the other.

Thanks again for your question. Music is definitely the key any fanvid I reckon.
xx

Glad you liked the question!^^

n most cases I hear a song and and it's "oh, I wanna vid that!" I love it when that happens.
Same here, same here =) Usually, then I go and watch the lyrics. As English isn't my native language, it's easier for me to actually see the lyrics and then try to imagine the images in my head. There were plenty of videos that I had to give up - I really liked the music, and the tone of the song, but the lyrics wasn;t what I wanted.

Yeah. And it's something you do incredibly well.
Oh...*blushes* thank youo so much! *smishes* I'm really glad you liked it in my videos, because for me it's one of the most important things.

(Man! I have enough trouble trying to tell a story with lyrics)
ACTUALLY, if you have troubles making an AU video - the instrumental song is just perfect for you. Because you don't have a lyrical guide lines to follow your story, you know? So you just can vid whatever story you want! ;) Maybe you should try it?

I'm ALWAYS on the look out for songs....almost every time I hear a song I wonder if I can vid to it.
GOD! It became an obsession for me lol Sometimes, when I have too many ideas and plans in my head, I kinda scared to listen new music haha Because I'd definitely pick up some OTHER song to make ONE ORE video xD

So, now I have to ask... What about you?
LOL this is your 5 mins of famous hun ))))) But if you really wanna know, sure I can answer this question.

I think I make a variety of styles because I try not to make the same type of vid one after the other.
I'm afraid this is my problem. I vid to much, and I feel like my videos started look the same.
You know, about your question, sometimes I feel NOT normal - making 4-5 vids in a month isn't normal, is it? *roll eyes* But I just can't help myself. When I hear the song and if I like it, I can stop myself, I open Vegas, see the new blank project and I have this "best feeling ever" - I start to vid, I think what clip or what image I should put first and blah-blah-blah... And then I just can't stop. I kinda vid fast, so vidding for me is like game of finding new things and effects and coralation of both or something, and that's why I usually don't stop vidding - if I start, I make< I finish. I believe the longest time I've been aking a video was something about 20-24 hours of non-stop work, and I guess it was my Stay video, or Until the truth becomes a lie, or my newest The Victim video - those are videos that I made without a stop. I do it because I don't want to loose the feeling, you know? To make a video look like it's one piece.
Anyway, about the music - as I already said, when I hear the song that I musically like, I find the lyrics and look through it. Sometimes it's hard for me to get the lyrics right just by listening to the song, so it helps me a lot. If I like the lyrics, I start thinking about the story - should I make a total AU, or some canon vid, or a wincest one, or some het video, you know? I start looking through the lines of lyrics and try to imagine the scenes and so on. Usually I make a full scenario for my video, I don't like start vidding "blind" you know? I like to know what I do, because if I know what I really want to show in a vid, I usually make my video in one-two nights.
If you have any questions about the particular video, feel free to ask me ;)

And thanks for your answers hun!

Thanks for answering that hun. I imagine you'd have to listen to a lot of music to as many as you do!

making 4-5 vids in a month isn't normal, is it?

You know, if I had the opportunity to make that many I probably would! I would love to be able to have a good run at a vid, but most times it's snatching moments here and there. I'm lucky when I can get a couple of hours at a time. :D

I guess I'm not THAT busy as you are, cause usually if I start making my video, I can't stop like for the next few hours hehe
