Title:
Secure the BlessingAuthor/Artist:
rahmiRating: PG13
Length/Word Count: Around 21,000
Warnings/Spoilers: Mentions of child abuse, swearing, a little bit of gore, cheesy happy endings.
Summary: Sam makes a wish. Dean is not pleased.
Reccer's Comments: A beautiful story about self-sacrifice, and about how love can transcend time and distance.
Reccer's Comments 2: This is my favorite SPN fic of all time. It's such a brilliant AU, I love what
rahmi does with the concept and it's just so much yes. YES.
Title:
Up Ahead (the roads were closed)Author/Artist:
rahmiRating: PG13
Length/Word Count: more than 20,000
Warnings/Spoilers: Ref to child abuse, swearing.
Summary: Sequel to "Secure the Blessing"
Reccer's Comments: The sequel is even better than the first fic. This AU will make your head hurt, but the brothers' relationship is beautifully described.
Reccer's Caveats: Mild John/Mary.
Title:
PeripheryAuthor/Artist:
hiyacynthRating: R
Length/Word Count: Around 19,000
Warnings/Spoilers: Language, sexual imagery, and mature themes. Set after 3x04 and contains general backstory spoilers to that point.
Summary: Sam doesn't remember making a wish in the warehouse, just stumbling backwards, the djinn catching him by the front of his shirt and holding him in that unstable, wrong-direction lean over the long flight of stairs. But he remembers a look of satisfaction and peace on the tattooed face and a whisper that almost glowed: "I see your heart."
Reccer's Comments: Sam's version of "What Is And What Should Never Be". Well-written and insightful.
Reccer's Caveats: some Sam/Jess, but I don't consider it the point of the story.
Title:
Unfinished BusinessAuthor/Artist: Troll Princess
Rating: PG
Length/Word Count: 1000 words
Warnings/Spoilers: Death Fic
Summary: AU following "In My Time of Dying", in which things go very, very wrong. Okay, even more wrong.
Reccer's Comments: This is the first fic I added to my Memories after I came to LJ. It's a beautiful, heartbreaking glimpse of Sam's unending devotion to his brother.
Reccer's Caveats: Have Kleenex handy. A lot of them. Not work-friendly if you cry easily (or loudly).
Title:
Plus c’est la même choseAuthor/Artist:
kroki_refurRating: PG-13
Length/Word Count: 6,640 words
Warnings/Spoilers: Violence and language in keeping with the show. AU.
Summary: Nothing would have changed. Except the things that would.
Reccer's Comments: This is splendid, exploring things that might have been (both good and bad) if Sammy's visions had started earlier. Lovely brother relationship, and thoughts on destiny and the consequences of saving people.
Reccer's Caveats: Passing references to Sam/Jess.
Title:
Strange's CountryAuthor/Artist:
concernedlilyRating: PG-13
Length/Word Count: 52,598
Warnings/Spoilers: Temporary (Canon) Character Death
Summary: Sam stopped focusing on ways to free Dean from the deal and started looking for ways to get him out of hell two months before he was due to arrive there. Crossover with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
Reccer's Comments: I love curling up with this story. It's long, it's interesting, it's brilliantly executed. Though it uses the canon of the novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, I don't think much prior knowledge of that world is necessary to enjoy this.
Title:
They Do Things Differently ThereAuthor/Artist:
kroki-refurRating: PG-13
Length/Word Count: 2600
Warnings/Spoilers: None
Summary: The future changes all the time, and maybe so does the past. And then there are some things that never change at all.
Reccer's Comments: We all know of
kroki-refur and all her stories rock but there are a couple that rise above all the rest for me and this is one of them. It's both sad and happy and just a really great idea.
Title:
HubrisAuthor/Artist:
insomnia_geekRating: R
Length/Word Count: 30,680 words
Warnings/Spoilers: Explicit language, violence, mentions of gore. Spoilers for "Nightshifter"--and, well, basically the first two seasons.
Summary: Sam didn't go with Dean that Halloween night. Six years later, he's a profiler with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. But when Special Agent Henriksen asks him for help on a series of strange cases, the past he thought he buried collides with the life he's made for himself, with disastrous consequences.
Reccer's Comments: I didn't think this premise would work, but the writer justifies all of Sam's alternate choices in ways that make absolute character sense, takes on canon events from a different perspective, and gives us a messy, wonderful ending to boot. (My only quibble is that it felt like it should be a crossover with Criminal Minds and wasn't. *g*)
Reccer's Caveats: Past references to Sam/Jess, but no sexin'.
