Transcript Formatting:
All right, everyone! Here we go!
First though, I keep forgetting to give a huge thank you to slodwick for the gorgeous lj layout for the comm. Thank you, slod!
Ok. The awesome darkhavens and literati are going to be designing the webpage for the transcript site, and I have to tell you, I couldnt be more grateful. (Websites and I dont get along well, in that I dont understand them, and they persist in mocking me at every turn. So. YAY for darkhavens and literati!!)
Under the cut tag will be the layout for your transcripts. All the info we're looking for, as well as some other helpful hints for the transcribing. Then I'll let you know what to do when you're done, etc.
Ok. All Transcripts are to have the following header:
Episode number & Title
Original Airdate
Writer
Director
Guest Stars
Featured Music
Show Location
(Brief explanation where the first scene takes place.)
Dialogue:

So, ok. Say I'm doing the Pilot. My file would look something like this:
Episode 1.1 - Pilot
Original Airdate: 9/13/05
Written by: Eric Kripke
Directed by: David Nutter
Guest Stars: Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John Winshester), Sarah Shahi (Constance Welch/Woman in White), Adrienne Palicki (Jessica)
Featured Music: (uhm, I dont have the ep here, but this is where you'd list song title and artist)
Location: Lawrence, Kansas, Stanford U, CA, (wherever they go to for the woman in white, I dont remember)
(We open on a small house. It's night out, etc)
Dialogue: blah blah blah *g*

And then you transcribe! We're looking mainly for dialogue here, but a few other things you want to list:
- One good website I've used in looking things up is on tv.com. The SPN link is here:
http://www.tv.com/supernatural/show/30144/summary.html
and it lists things like original airdates and who directed each episode, etc.
- We dont want every outfit every person is ever wearing. That would be silly. But yes, in Nightmare, you do need to put PRIEST OUTFIT, and things of that nature.
- We dont need a name and listing for every guest start in every episode. I'm thinking the ones that really make an impact on the plot itself. That have dialogue with Sam and Dean. Like, in Skin, you'd want to list the actress name for Rebecca, but not, say, the oriental man that was the shapeshifter before Dean. That would be a pain in the ass to look up, and also, he doesnt really affect the story. You can just list him as Shapeshifter, or whatever.
- JDM is considered a guest star. Please make sure to list him in his episodes. You dont ever have to list JA or JP. We kinda know they're gonna be there, lol.
- Your transcript should be saved in a word document as a txt file. That means when you save it, click file, save as, .txt (please choose the option with no line breaks). Also, if you could code the html for bold, underlines and italics when you're using them, that would be fantastic and make my and the proofreaders and the web peoples lives MUCH easier.
When you have finished your transcript, please email it to me at tress30 @ gmail . com (no spaces) with the word doc as an attachment, and I will forward it to the proofreaders and then to the web people to be updated. Please make sure to have your lj name or whatever you go by somewhere on the file: Im not sure how we're going to list the writing credits, but when we figure it out we'll need it.
I'd love to have these done by around the 20th or so of August. That gives you guys a month to do them up, and then us a month to get the proofed and fixed up and then uploaded to the site. The earlier the better, though, so if you get yours done, shoot it to me whenever you can!
Finally, this whole project is a group effort, and we're all here to help each other. If you have a question about your episode: you've watched it fifty times and man, Jared MUMBLES one line and you just cant make it out, or you've been watching and watching but just cant figure out what the name of the song is during the scene when Dean and Cassie are in bed, please, post a question to the community and someone will be able to answer you. We're all in this together, to do something for the fandom as a whole, so let's work that way, all right?
