Take me out to the ballgame! (J2 RPS)
Okay, so look--we've had RPS posts before with Jared and Jensen as professional athletes. We've had posts centering on the Winchester brothers and baseball. So this post is an amazing combination of the two, and some of the fic I love the most EVER--J2 baseball AUs!
There's a semi-standard formula most follow--Jared is an up-and-coming pitcher, Jensen is the grizzled veteran catcher/manager/whatever (usually, though, he's a catcher), and sparks (eventually) fly! The similarities stop there, and each fic takes its own journey to how our boys achieve their happy ending. ANYWAY, I love, love, LOVE setting the J2 romance in the baseball world, and I'd like to share a few of my favorites with you!
And It's a Whole New Ball Game by kestrelsan (Jared/Jensen, NC-17)
"Don't tell me about the world. Not today. It's springtime and they're knocking baseball around fields where the grass is damp and green in the morning and the kids are trying to hit the curve ball."
Okay, so I know this one HAS been recced here before, but, seriously, this is your second chance--if you haven't read it, do it NOW. It's fic perfection, people. TRUST me.
Glory Days by theladyscribe (Jared/Jensen, R)
Have some faith. This is baseball; anything can happen.
This whole fic is amazing, but I think my favorite part is probably all of the quotations sprinkled in. The atmosphere is just so perfectly baseball, and Jared and Jensen (and a large RPS crew) are seamlessly inserted into the sport. Not to mention that I have a thing for the whole "lost love regained" storyline. SO GOOD.
One for the Good Guys by cdeacon (Jared/Jensen, NC-17)
Jared is an up-and-coming pitcher with a checkered past. If he wants to play in the big leagues again, he'll have to figure out how to work with Jensen, a has-been catcher with a serious attitude problem.
The format of this fic really captures the entire spirit of baseball season, as it systematically takes the reader through the paces. I could read this fic fifteen times a day EVERY DAY and not get sick of it. Which clearly means should do the same. :)
Slide Right Into You by theladyscribe (Jared, Jensen, PG-13)
"Okay, hotstuff, what do you want, since you're not taking any of my suggestions?"
This is just a tiny little timestamp for Glory Days (listed above), but, hee, it's just so perfect! I'm convinced Jared and Jensen really could be major league baseball players, because theladyscribe's writing is so pitch-perfect (PITCH perfect--see what I did there? ;)).
(There's at least one other amazing fic that's missing here, as I'm still searching for the link--I'll edit it in once I find it, but virtual cookies if someone beats me to it in the comments. Or, you know, posts any others I may have missed. There's always room for more great fic! :))
