Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?

Once in a rare while, a WIP (work-in-progess) is so compelling that it rates a rec here in our newsletter. Such is the case with Above Us Only Sky by fatebegins. Summary: For seven years, Jensen has survived on his hatred for Jared Padalecki. For seven years, he's systematically torn down their empire. Now, it's time for his revenge. cherry916 raves, "This is her new J2 story and boy is it a doozy! It is a mob/crime AU that is a lot like her Dark Love series, where Jared and Jensen's whole relationship rests on very dubious standings. She already has 5 chapters up and I can't wait for more." If abuse, forced abortion, dub-con, and humiliation are the types of hurt you're in the mood for, this story really delivers!
Only got time for something pretty short right now? ayane42 recs The Long Calendar by foolscapper, and its sequel too. Summary: One time per month, every month on Earth, Sam visits Dean for a day from the Cage. "I'm a sucker for Hell!Sam," ayane42 admits, "and this one is suitably depressing and gloomy but filled with lots of angsty Sam! It's awesome!!"

Trigger Warning by riyku is what ash48 found particularly memorable this month. "It's hard to describe torture as 'beautiful'," she says, "but this is beautifully written and describes Jared's torture and suffering poetically. This piece stays with you long after reading it." Summary: Things are starting to come back to Jared. Things like blinding grit in his eyes and collateral damage.
Counting the days now till ohsam posts the fills for their recent challenge! Keep an eye over there!

ayane42 heads to fanfiction.net for a story to feature this month, and comes back with Punching in a dream by Felix-Felicius. Summary: After being told he can't go to Stanford, Sam is found with his wrists slit, in an apparent suicide attempt. Only thing is, he doesn't remember doing it. It's 30K of SPN gen, with a suicide attempt, drugs and angst, and ayane42 reports, "This was a great story, lots of mystery about what happened with Sam, plus the angst about going to Stanford."
For a featured J2AU, ayane42 is going with Screaming Color by lotrspnfangirl. Summary: Jared escapes his hometown, and his past, for a fresh start in the bright and busy city of New York. Jensen has been stationed in the city for the better part of the last four years. When they finally get together, neither one wants to let their fears or scars hold them back. But when the world around you doesn’t actually know you, and the demons of your past threaten to break you, can love really conqueror all? "This is a great story!!" ayane42 says, adding that the types of hurt include past abuse (physical and emotional) and referenced rape/non-con. "Lots of angst and some scary, tense moments, but just a wonderful story with hurt Jared ( and some hurt Jensen) definitely a great read!!"

art: Demon!Dean doesn't want Sam dead, not really. I'm Your Worst Nightmare is "beautifully heartbreaking work (chomaisky spoils us!)," ash48 says. "There's love and pain and all levels of wrong - which is perfectly Winchester."
art:chomaisky isn't done with us yet. Indulge in You Found Me, summarized with this prompt: So the story is, Sam finds a spell or some black magic which transports him to purgatory, but he somehow can't maintain the form of his body and he transforms into some kind of an almost immobile purgatory creature. He can't speak or see, but he can carve words into the leaves that grow out of him. And that's how he finds his brother, or the other around. ash48 raves, "This is wonderfully atmospheric. I adore the colouring and the style. It conjures up all sorts of fantastical thoughts, and I love it when art does that."
