Mary paced back and forth across the nursery cradling her precious bundle, gently hushing the tiny wailing figure that clung to her as if his life depended on it.
“There, there, Deanie,” she whispered, rocking him gently back and forth as he gradually began to calm, “silly Daddy didn’t mean to prick you with the pin when he was changing your diaper. Silly, clumsy, ham-fisted Daddy; that’s the last time I let that idiot near your diaper.”
Standing shamefaced on the other side of the room, John watched them in silence as he bowed his head.
“Yesssss!” he thought; “job done.”
