Characters: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester
Summary: Sam interrupts Dean’s lunch.
Word Count: 245
“Hey, get this,” Sam stated as he walked into the kitchen, ending his search for his brother.
Dean raised his eyes from his sandwich to look at Sam. Before he could ask what, Sam started speaking.
Sam looked down at the book in his hand, running his fingers of his free hand over one of the pages. “Did you know that Samhain was one of the four main festivals of the Gaelic calendar? It marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.”
Dean opened his mouth to speak, but Sam continued on.
“It was also the time to take stock of the herds and food supplies,” Sam supplied
“Is there a point to any of this?” Dean huffed out as he leaned back in his chair.
Sam looked at him in confusion. “Uh, what do you mean?”
Dean rolled his eyes. “This history lesson, is there a point?”
“It’s interesting,” Sam responded.
“Yeah, for you. Unless you’re about to tell me the story of the pig that gave its life for my lunch, go away and let me eat in peace,” Dean shot back.
Sam narrowed his eyes at his brother, pursed his lips and then pulled out a chair. Sitting down, he turned to the next page. “So, there were these customs . . .”
Dean took a deep breath before picking up his sandwich and taking a bite, thankful that after living with Sam, he had perfect the art of tuning him out.
Title: Pumpkin Carving
Characters: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester
Summary: Sam attempts to carve a pumpkin.
Word Count: 245
Dean walked into the kitchen to find Sam standing at the table. His took in the sight before him; the table was covered in newspaper, spread out from one end to the other and there was a large pumpkin in front of Sam. Pumpkin guts had been scooped out and dumped to one side of Sam and the top to the pumpkin lay on the opposite side. In Sam’s right hand was a large butcher knife. It was clear to Dean that Sam had no idea he was being watched. “Hey, Sammy, watchca doing?”
Sam looked up from the pumpkin to Dean and then back down again. “Carving a pumpkin.” He waved the knife in front of the pumpkin and then set it down. He took a step back, cocked his head to the side as he took in his carving skills.
Dean walked around the table to join him and sucked in a shocked breath and then coughed. “Sam, is it supposed to look like that?”
Sam shrugged his shoulders, not taking his eyes off his finished pumpkin. “Why, what’s wrong with it?”
“Nothing, absolutely nothing,” Dean replied as he walked away, thinking they were lucky Sam wasn’t able to display his pumpkin. The face on the pumpkin was lopsided, one eye was round while the other was a triangle, the nose was square and the mouth looked like The Joker had carved it. Yeah, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Sam’s carved pumpkin.

Word Count: 235
“Dean?” Sam called as he knocked on the door.
“Yeah, what is it?” Dean called out and then paused the movie he’d been watching. He looked up as Sam pushed open his bedroom door.
“What’s this?” Sam asked, holding up a piece of paper with Dean’s scribbled writing across it, thrusting it at him.
“Looks like the note I left you.”
“Yeah, but I can’t read it,” Sam stated with an eye-roll, displaying his annoyance.
Dean shrugged, “After all this time you can’t read my writing?” Dean huffed out.
“Maybe if it wasn’t just a few pen scratches on paper and actual words, I’d know what you were trying to tell me.”
Dean grabbed the paper and pointed at it. “It’s a list of horror movies we’re gonna watch on Halloween.”
“Really? Isn’t our life a horror movie already? Now you want to watch . . . What does this even mean?” He pointed again at the paper.
Dean rolled his eyes again and frowned at his brother, “Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine, then after those we can watch Devour and House of Wax.” He heard Sam groan and narrowed his eyes at him. “What? They’re classics, you got a problem with the classics?”
“No, just your obsession with horror movies,” Sam muttered as he turned and left.
“Whatever,” Dean responded as he pressed play, filling his room with the sound of a blood curdling scream.
