Summary: It's Valentine's Day in the bunker, but general confusion and miscommunication abounds.
"Have I offended them?" asked Castiel, after Mary made her excuses and departed, followed quickly by a stunned-looking Dean.
"I think they were maybe a little surprised," said Sam, diplomatically. He rubbed his face. "I guess we never realized you felt like that about our Mom."
Castiel frowned. "Your mother's a remarkable woman; why's it surprising that I'd cherish our friendship?"
Sam looked awkward. "Yeah, but romantically."
"Why would you think that?" asked Castiel, cocking his head to one side.
"Because of the Valentine's card you just gave her..."
"Ah yes," interrupted Castiel, pulling a pen and card from his trench coat's pocket. "I need to finish writing Dean's," he added, as he signed it with a flourish.
Sam choked back a laugh. "You know, they're supposed to be anonymous."
Castiel's face took on a pinched expression. "Oh, look," he deadpanned, winning no prizes for acting. "This arrived for you earlier." He pulled another card from his pocket and passed it to Sam.
"You know, Cas," said Sam, gently. "Valentines are usually associated with romance..."
"I'm touched," said Castiel sympathetically, clapping Sam on the shoulder. "But I don't think of you that way."
Sam's jaw dropped, too stunned to reply.
