Kerby was moving stuff out of Elisa's house today and showed me her box of old Northwest zines. I grabbed some and have been reading them today... I picked up one that was written by STS - the girl that Butchies' song is about - and it was talking about touring in Europe and meeting Dominatrix (Elisa's band). It's so weird and amazing to read random zines from your hometown while in Brazil and find references to the people you're staying with.
I've been couchsurfing this whole trip but today is the first time I'm using couchsurfing.com. I'm in a little theater producer's apartment in Sumaré, a residencial neighborhood in Sao Paulo. It has cats and wine and multiple computers and old books and opera CDs and now zines and backpacks.
I started to write "Yesterday I was robbed by a seven year-old with a gun..." and then I realized that the most fucked up thing was that this kid half my sister's age was walking around with a gun by himself. And I'd just been focusing on the frustration of losing my cellphone. Seriously, how does a seven year-old get a gun that size? Or get the idea to go around alone with it?
(the robbery was super no worries and no violence - I put myself in a dangerous place and managed to only lose my cellphone and subway change - he didn't even look at the bag that had my passport, credit card, journal with all my contacts, and $250)
