Valentine's Day Event

Feb 08, 2011 02:42

I hope you're all up for some lovey-dovey fun, because Valentine's Day is coming up, and of course Splendor will be ready for the occasion!

From 12:01AM EST Friday, February 11th until 12:01AM PST Tuesday, February 15th, a special seventh district will be appearing in Splendor. This district will be situated in the lighter forest area next to the metropolis and alpine district (see the map for reference), and will possess some very...unique attributes. See below the cut for more information!

WHAT: Valentine's Day Weekend Event
WHEN: February 11th at 12:01 AM EST until February 15th at 12:01 AM PST.
WHERE: A special district located next to the Alpine and Metropolis Districts, situated in the light area of forest there.

Friday night (or rather, Thursday night, since it starts at midnight and leads into Friday), Splendor will undergo heavy holiday decorating. Everything within the city will take on Valentine's day decor, from cute pink and white lights dotting wrapped around the trees to pink, red, and white flowers popping up everywhere. Even the city river will have unbearably cute aspects to it, like rose petals floating down it, and romantic lighting set up along the banks.

Also on Friday, a special notice will appear on the notice board. This notice will advertise the rare appearance of a seventh district, simply named the Disappearing District. What is in this district will not be advertised on the notice, so your characters will be left wondering.

The Disappearing District

The Disappearing District is a district that makes rare appearances in Splendor, and often changes every time. This time, the district will only be around for those few days the event is open, and it will resemble what can easily be summed up as a county fair fit for a first date.

A few notable things in the district are listed below.

♥ The Tunnel of Love
♥ A small ferris wheel (every seat built for two! You could try squeezing three into one, though)
♥ A tilt-a-whirl
♥ A merry-go-round (who doesn't want to ride on a cute pony next to their date?)
♥ Bumper Cars
♥ A Scare Tunnel Ride (it's not really that scary, but you know you want an excuse to make your date grab onto you)
♥ A photo booth
♥ Small competition games with giant stuffed animals as prizes.
♥ Small stalls to get classic fair food, like corndogs or cotton candy
♥ A small and quaint flowershop, selling only romantic flowers (meaning no flowers that say horrible things according to flower language)
♥ A candy store
♥ An ice cream store
♥ A bakery
♥ A cute little cafe
♥ A romantic evening restaurant

Pretty much if it screams "cheesy first date" to you, it's there.

The Disappearing District has a catch, though; to enter, you must meet one requirement. The requirement changes each time. This time, the requirement is you cannot be alone.

♥ You must enter with at least one other person.
♥ You must enter willingly with each other (meaning no one gets grudgingly dragged along).
♥ In order to continue actually moving around in the district, you have to stay within ten feet of each other at all times. (You and your partner(s) will literally not be able to move farther away from each other; you entered with a partner, you have to stay with that partner.)
♥ The ten feet rule is voided on rides where you may end up farther away than that from someone (for instance, bumper cars).

So, what's the motivation to enter and/or stay in the district? Well, let's just say love something is in the air in Splendor, and that something will draw your character to the district. They're not going to be forced to enter at all, but it is awfully tempting to explore a new area, right?

There are Locals in this district, though they have something slightly different than other Locals; while they still don't talk or directly look at outsiders, they do respond. These Locals take care of and run the Disappearing District. All the rides will be managed by them, all the shops and restaurants run by them - everything will function as if it is a normal fair run by normal people. The people just...won't talk. They also won't acknowledge questions that don't relate to asking to get some ice cream, or if you can ride the bumper cars now.

So, that's about it! If you've got any questions, drop them off below!
