Well, now. There has been quite the influx of new arrivals lately, hasn't there?

I'm not sure I have a favorite.

[ a pause, thoughtful. ]

I have an interest in them as a whole. The thing about fables is that there's always a reason they came into being-- a kernel of truth or a moral to be drawn from them. Take urban legends, for example. While the story or the entity in question is often blown out of proportion in a citywide game of telephone, there's an undeniable start to the tale.

Some would say they are very telling about the fears and drives inherent in human nature.

Very much so. A story like those often originates from exactly that-- desire and fear. From what does your interest stem?

Much the same as yours. Human nature never ceases to fascinate.

[ they're his favourite toys, after all! ]

Is that so. In that case, I'm intrigued to find out more about the nature of a human like yourself, who claims to be fascinated by such a thing. It seems we may have some things in common.

Oya. How flattering, but I fear I'm dreadfully boring.

Were my interest along the lines of making friends, it might pose a problem but in this case, I wouldn't really consider your ability to entertain me of any dire importance. The reason for my intrigue is a determination of worth.

If we're speaking of your opinion, then only you can be the judge of that.

My opinion, yes, among other things. Such as whether or not I should bother keeping you in my sights. Sometimes one's interest can pose a threat to another's in the right circumstances. Especially if that person is very selfish.

Now which of us do you refer to?

Myself, naturally. I couldn't make that determination about you yet.

So you mean to say that you are very selfish?

I can attest to as much. And that said, I tend to get a bit possessive when others impede on my interests. Thus, I need to make sure their interest is of less magnitude than mine.

That would be ungentlemanly of me.

Do you have some stake in being a gentleman, then?

I'm not prone to beginning wars of territory with strangers, if that's what you're curious about. I've too much on my plate, shall we say.
