[as the video feed flickers on, you're greeted first by the sound of hissing, then scales -- and finally, as the scaled thing pulls back, an incredibly unfriendly-looking snake, apparently inspecting the device

[ The hiss was already enough for him to feel this was all oddly familiar. When the snake appeared on the video, he had the confirmation. While he would certainly be unable to recognize the snake itself, it didn't take much to recognize the person it was with. When he talks, he still sound slightly surprised ]

[the voice startles snake, since he didn't expect it to do anything, much less speak with smile's voice and face. was this some sort of... phone...?]

[that -- startles him more than hearing his voice from the object, especially since he didn't seem to mind it before. he falls silent, slightly confused and abashed.]
