Just got a very nice email, from an editor at a well-known and respected magazine, calling one of my stories "well written and entertaining" and asking if they could hang onto it for a couple more weeks before final decisions are made. Happy St. Patrick's Day! In honor of my Irish heritage, I'm...well, actually I'm writing a paper about Terry Pratchett and Shakespeare today, followed by grading composition finals. But I'll wear my lucky clover scarf, at least.

Hooray! Realms of Fantasy lives again! Time to get back to the fiction writing, I suppose.

Back on track. After all my whining about lack of writing enthusiasm, I've just finished a story. (Ironically, the one that had the least work done on it to begin with.) Lesson learned: when having problems with a short story, jump to the climax or even the resolution. Then you can go back and say, "Now, what has to happen to get from here to here. ( Read more... )

I think I'm having some sort of creative writing crisis. I have lots of story beginnings at the moment--but somehow when I try to go back to them, the excitement vanishes.
