Started teaching yesterday. Ah, shiny new college freshmen, fresh out of high school. Which of course means that in addition to teaching them writing and curse words in Old English, I also must teach them that, hey, this isn't high school. But they're always so enthusiastic in the fall--I had meant to let them out early, first day and all, but we ended up taking the entire hour-twenty min period with syllabus and introductions and chatting. I was amazed.
We are starting to send out acceptances and rejections to those who submitted pieces for the Welsh mythology book. A couple of pretty awesome names in there. Moments of elation coupled with first-book-editing-project fear. I'll be happier when McFarland officially signs off on it, even though we have multiple email and verbal assurances.
I now have my fourth person for my PhD exam committee. The conversation went like this:
me: so, I would love to have you as my 4th, because I'm working with fantasy fiction and magical theory and so on and you've done a lot of work on these subjects and I'd like someone I feel comfortable with?
Dr W: Absolutely, I'd be happy to!
me: ...well, that was easy.
And then she laughed. My committee is really pretty awesome, at this point.
Dollhouse premiere tonight. Eagerly awaiting the new season...
...and now, yoga.
