"Well, we don't have to worry about whose turn it is to make the cake." As Sam swore and poked at the DHD, Jack slumped down onto the steps at the base of the Stargate, grimacing when he realized there was a little puddle of brackish water in the worn stone. "Does Hallmark make a card for 'Sorry we missed your birthday, Elly. We were stuck on an alien planet'?"
"I do believe it is your turn to make the cake, O'Neill." Teal'c was helping Sam, picking and placing the appropriate tool from her kit every time she stuck out her hand.
Jack thought it was a sign that they all spent a way too much time together.
"Is not." He stood and tried to brush the water from the seat of his pants.
"Is too, Jack." Daniel spread his rain poncho on the steps before flopping down with a drawn-out sigh. "You were supposed to make Kate's cake, and you bullied Sam into it."
"I did not bully her into anything." But Jack cleared his throat loudly and scuffed his foot and ignored the muffled squeak of horrified laughter that emerged from under the DHD.
Damn Daniel for reminding him about that incident.
"And the time before that I did it because you were 'sick'." Daniel made the little air quotes. "Which was your own fault for eating all those burritos."
"And I completed the task in your stead prior to that."
Jack glared at Teal'c. "You lost a bet, fair and square."
"Which doesn't change the fact that it's still your turn, Jack. And I'm not letting you weasel out of it this time."
"Oh really? And just how do you plan to stop me?"
"I'll... think of something."
Sam's excited whoop almost drowned out the whine of the now-active DHD.
"It seems that you no longer have our delayed return as an excuse, O'Neill." Teal'c gave a broad grin as he packed up Sam's tools while she dialed out.
Muttering, Jack pulled Daniel to his feet and they joined Sam and Teal'c as the wormhole opened. "Do you have to be so damn efficient, Carter?"
"Yes, sir, I do," she said cheerfully, letting him help her into her pack and Daniel and Teal'c went ahead and waited for them at the event horizon.
"Well, stop it."
"Yes, sir." She grinned as they headed up the steps. "And sir?"
"What?"
"This time I get the frosting bowl."
Happy (slightly late) Birthday,
