Hey, lj. How YOU doin'?
So, since I last posted, life's been a

The
dwinn had his gallbladder out (he's doing fine now), which required some schedule juggling for a few weeks, I went to ConFusion and had a blast with the usual suspects, then the last of the petite, family titans that were my grandmother's sisters died, and that came with a huge load of maternal and cousinly drama that lasted for a bittersweet and grating couple of weeks. Then Q got sick, then I got sick, and then yesterday morning we sadly had to put Grapefruit to sleep. And through it all work has been unrelentingly ridiculous and busy, as we're short staffed and my immediate boss, who was on medical leave in September, came back to find out our dean's office had given her a related unit to cover, and then she decided to retire in April. I spend most of my days at work so busy I don't even have time to bang my head on my desk at the shenanigans going on. So that's a small blessing, I guess.
In other news...
OMFG new Avengers trailer! SO EXCITED.
I've been reading a ton of fic (I have like 100 Yultide story tags open in my browser), and as a result have been reorganizing my fic tags over on Pinboard - I switched over to Pinboard from Delicious, and OMG, so much happier. Well worth the one-time fee (still under $10).
Decided to keep a more reasonable goal of 25 books read in 2012, so I can also catch up on the huge backlog of short fiction I have on my Kindle from Lightspeed magazine, Clarkesworld, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and the daily stuff I have in my inbox from Daily Science Fiction.
For those of you enraged as I am over the attempts to dismantle women's control over their bodies and reproductive health, I highly recommend this short story: ILU-486. Very much in the vein of The Handmaid's Tale, but coming out of the currently politics of reproductive rights.
All my spring bulbs are confused as hell and starting to come up, and I'm feeling the urge to "gardengardenGARDENOMGNOW." Soon, my preciooouussesss.
I have a LITTLE KID. With opinions! And preferences! And a sense of humor! And all the words! How did this happen? In other words, the Q is MADE OF AWESOME. His vocabulary has just exploded. He loves giving hugs lately, loves his books, loves his dinosaurs (and making them kiss), loves his Flash doll, loves his "buddies" (stuffed animals as big as he is), LOVES to dance, loves to watch "Si o no!" with Dad (aka Dan Le Batard's Highly Questionable on ESPN), and "Videos!" (America's Funniest Home Videos). He still misses the Christmas tree sometimes. He loves, as we're driving to point out "Truck!" or "BUS!". Can sort of say his name, loves to charge back and forth across the room, yelling "Running!" He loves to empty out and then hide inside the one kitchen cupboard that had been abandoned to his use.
He is also reminding us regularly that he's almost two, and can go from wonderful to meltdown in a split second. Sometimes, it is very, very hard not to laugh when he is angry stomping across the room because WE ARE RUINING HIS LIFE because WE won't let him bend a book backwards or smash his weebles into the plate glass doorwall, or WE try to put the wrong coat on him, because OMG HE WANTS TO WEAR THE OTHER COAT.
Oh, toddler.
