Engineer No More

Jul 27, 2004 14:53

For those of you who have been to game night, my friend Engineer Boy is moving on to a new phase in his life.  He recently sent out a message about upcoming changes, so I thought I would share that info with you:

I know that many of you may have heard and yet many of you may have not so here it is: I'm dropping out of the Engineering world to pursue a "higher calling" as they say. I will be starting studies at St. Meinrad Seminary to further discern a calling to the Priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church. The key word being "discern." I've felt a calling for some 5 years and have been somewhat successfully avoiding an honest evaluation of the matter. I've grown somewhat weary of the running and have decided I will give God an honest and whole hearted chance. We will all see where He will take me. I've come as far as I can go in this decision process with much help from friends and family and simply need more concentrated and directed time with people who deal with this all the time. So off to seminary with me.

I informed work about 5 weeks ago and had my last day last friday (7/23). In true form their support and encouragement was awesome. So I'm now in the process of packing up, distributing or liquidating my few earthly pocessions so that I can once again fit all I own into a dorm room (yippie! ;/  ) Although the thought of homework, papers, and test doesnt' thrill me, I am very excited to pursuing this. Its sort of like the peace I felt once I decided to go tackle the AT years ago. It just feels right, a sort of Peace. I've learned over the years that if the heart isn't in it its just no fun and if the heart is... then watch out world!

I'm simply proof that God has a sense of humor, but its His will that matters so I do my best to give it a go.

Peace and love,
jmg

I'd just like to ask all of you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he makes this transition.  Good luck, buddy!

faith, friends
