I'm finding myself becoming more interested in keeping up with the Jewish holidays - not because I want to get more religious - I'm perfectly happy being my proud Jewish athiest self - but because I am fascinated by tradition. If you think about it, man has created all of these acts, this protocol, what food you should eat, what each piece of food symbolizes, etc. etc. And man has created it all to make everything else make sense. Really, how fascinating is that?
So Rosh Hashanah starts at sundown tomorrow, and it's a happy day! Apples and honey are used as a symbol of a sweet new year. I'll gladly welcome either of these, but please don't leave a honey covered apple on my doorstep. The ants aren't Jewish.
Ok, so let's back track a little. Again I haven't posted in a little bit, but now I have things to write. Wednesday morning, Liam had a fever. "School" called and said he was running a 102.9. He's been getting sick a lot lately so as a precaution, I made an appointment at the clinic for an hour later and woke up Daniel, who's been working 12 hour night shifts with one day off (FUN) and got him to get Liam. I left work and met them at the clinic. As we were walking in, I said hi to Liam and he didn't answer me. As we got to the clinic desk, I walked around to say hi to him again (he was laying down on Daniel's shoulder) and he wouldn't look at me. He was staring off into space. He wouldn't respond. He looked like he was in a trance. I told Daniel that something was wrong and to keep trying to get his attention while I went to the desk and said that something was going on and we needed someone to look at him now. Just as they ran to get someone, Liam started to shake. The nurse came and grabbed him as he was shaking and ran him back to a room while an influx of people got there. His PCM was there, as were some other clinic staff and nurses and stuff. Bunches of officers. Daniel and I were taken out of the room and a nice Captain stayed with us to give us updates. They put Liam on an IV and oxygen and checked his blood sugar. After a few minutes they put us on an ambulence to get checked out at the hospital. It was probably the scariest thing that I have ever experienced. It look Liam about 45 minutes to start recognizing and responding to me. After about an hour I was able to make him laugh at the hospital. We were told that he had a febrile seizure. They aren't damaging, just extremely fucking scary. We were told that it could happen again but it might not, and it's caused by a sudden increase or decrease in temperature. At the time of the seizure they took his temp and it was 99, so I assume it was caused by him going from 102.9 to 99 in such a little time period.
The good news is that the next day, his fever was gone and he was back to normal. It was like a 24 hour virus or something. He's been acting like his wonderful self ever since. We even went ahead and had his birthday party on Sunday. It went really well. He got a little power wheels mustang from Daniel's parents, which he is crazy about. Daniel's parents are visiting until Wednesday, so they kept Liam yesterday and are keeping him today. So he's having a nice little visit.
I've moved into the marketing department for real now. Someone stole my comfy chair though. I'm going to have to track that down.
That's all for now folks.
