How long has it been since I've posted something about my life? It feels like a long time. Maybe because things have been happening. Let me try to write all this down without it becoming one lump of messiness.
My mom and sister came down last weekend. We went to New York, visited my family (family that I didn't really know) and then did some bridal shopping because my sister is getting married next year. I'm the maid of honor and the curviest of all the bridal party so my sister graciously told the others that I'd have the final say on the dresses. I really love the one that we picked. It's very classic, and something I'd wear again. She wants it in navy.
My family. My mom's side of the family is like an exaggerated episode of Seinfeld. Yes, exaggerated. I have an aunt and cousins that live on Long Island. My cousin is the assistant to the VP of Sergio Rossi, which is a division of Gucci. They design shoes. She's somehow managed to escape the holier-than-thou bug though, and we're definitely going to hang out - and I'm definitely going to get me some shoes. My great-aunt lives in north Jersey and she cooked a huge Jewish spread for us. I didn't eat half of it - gefilte fish just isn't my thing - but it was still fun. I met some more of my family there and they invited Daniel, Liam and I for passover. I'm excited.
So that was last weekend. Since then, things have actually happened too. On Wednesday morning, Liam woke up with a swollen finger. I thought it was a bug bite or something. When I picked him up from daycare, his finger AND part of his hand was swollen. I decided to bring him to the after-hours clinic on base just to check it out, thinking it was probably nothing. After an hour and a half of waiting, the doctor took one look at it and said we should bring him to the ER because it was some sort of infection and if he didn't get antibiotics through an IV, it's possible he'd lose mobility in that finger. BAJEEZUS. Daniel met me at the clinic right before the doctor saw us, so we both went home so he could shower (he smelled like fuel) and get some things for the anticipated long wait in the ER. After the doctor's encouragement, we decided to go to the Childrens' Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP. It's about a 45 minute drive from our house, but it's the best Childrens' Hospital in the nation. I am so glad we went there. Somehow we were lucky enough to go on a slow night and Liam saw the ER doctor within 30 minutes of getting there. Not only that, but he was incredibly comfortable with everyone he met, which is unusual for him. He kept asking everyone if they were his friend! I LOVED everyone who worked there. They obviously love their job and working with kids - I'm sure it's much more enjoyable than working with adults. Two ER doctors saw him and both said that he should be admitted and given IV antibiotics until his hand improved. They said it was some sort of infection and he could have gotten it many different ways - we don't know how exactly. Regardless, we stayed overnight and he got his IV antibiotics. Even the IV went better than I thought it would. I'm telling you, these people know their stuff. I mean, you can't friggin stick a kid a few times until you get it right, so they know they have to get it the first time. When I got my IV for my C-section, the chick poked me again and again until she got the right spot and it hurt worse than the epidural! So, I was glad they did such a good job.
There was a play room near our room and since Liam didn't have to be hooked up all the time, we went in there mos t of the next day. Daniel had to go home the night before and report for duty but his sgt called him the next morning and let him come to the hospital. Sometimes the Air Force can be understanding. Liam got released Thursday afternoon around 6pm after his hand drastically improved and we were sent home with oral antibiotics to give to him three times a day. His hand is almost all better now.
Today is my first day as a permanent employee. I have orientation at 3:30 and I'm making the big bucks now. We'll probably celebrate when I get my first paycheck.
Liam's birthday is this Saturday and I'm planning for his party. Daniel's parents are coming in on Friday but since Daniel has been switched to nights (did I forget to mention that?) and he's working 12 hour shifts right now, with one day off because all the planes apparently decided to break at once, I'll be spending all the time with the in-laws. I've suggested to them that we go to Sesame Place on Saturday because it'll keep them distracted and keep me from having to have intimate conversations with them. They are good people but we really have nothing in common except for Liam. Daniel and I actually took Liam to Sesame Place yesterday and I really liked it. It's a theme park, but just about the right size for little kids. Liam begged us to go on the roller coaster and he loved it. I was pretty surprised. We also saw a show with all the characters and all Liam had to say about it once it was done was "Where was cookie monster?" So we walked around the park to find cookie monster and get a picture. We got a flat on the way there, which Daniel changed in the parking lot of a convenient store in Trenton, so after we left Sesame Place, I dropped Daniel off at home so he could sleep a little before work and I went to Wal-Mart to get a new tire. That took about three hours - just enough time for me to find a cute ten buck shirt and belt.
Well, I think that's actually it. I've been wanting to post but at the same time dreading it because I knew it'd be a long one and I didn't want to have to think about being witty or smart. It is what it is I guess.
As a last note, I'm pretty much addicted to Flight of the Conchords and Dexter.
