There was a gap in my book rotation, so on my last trip to the library I pulled a couple of volumes at near-random from the stacks. One was forgettable. (See I've forgotten already.) The other was "The Dragon of Babel" by Michael Swanwick. I'm only a few chapters in, but it's an enjoyably fresh take on the classic fantasy sword and sorcery setting, kind of like a steam-punk war novel set in faerieland.
