Family Update

V is doing well. We had her two month pediatrician's appointment yesterday and she weighed in at 7 lbs. 14.5 oz. Small for a two month old, but just perfect for a one week old. The doctor is thrilled with her progress and showered us with praise. We, being tired and exhausted lapped it up as reserves for the next two months as we patiently (or not) wait for V to fall into the newborn rhythm of eating and sleeping. Right now the process is ad hoc and wreaking havoc on management. At the ped visit, V got her two month immunizations, which led to a crying, wriggling, puking baby for most of the day. On the up side, it helped me appreciate just how easy to settle she usually is.

terrier_girl is exhausted and overwrought. Yesterday when V had her meltdown, Terrier had one of her own. There is just so much on her mind: breast milk, V's development, the PhD. And all this on little sleep, limited socialization and taking care of a no-schedule baby 20 hours a day. Thankfully our friends and family have been great, bringing food and generously volunteering their time. It's made this all possible, but I think we're going to have to unload some of Terrier's responsibilities before she pops.

Dargo is OK. He's still a little miffed that the Milk Slug has usurped his place as the spoiled attention hog of the family, but he's adjusting. He's also 15 months old now, and moving from a puppy mentality to dog behaviors. This makes him much calmer and more stoic about all the little disruptions in his life. He loves his sister though, especially that she's a messy eater. If we put her on the ground after a meal, she gets the puppy prewash. And if she cries, he comes over to lick her. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it doesn't. I'm just glad that we're getting him out to the park more mornings than not.

I'm doing as well as can be expected. I've had my own ups and downs, but mostly I'm staying functional and involved. I try hard to balance work and home and still leave a little space for me, but that's not always easy. My of two days ago was a success, I wrote my LJ and multiple emails. Last night I got some time to do stuff as well. Tonight I have still more projects on deck as I slowly reclaim my life. I've still not found any fiddle instructor in reasonable distance, which is starting to wear. I'll have to renew my search. I've also started running in the morning. I needed more exercise and knew I didn't have any more time in the day, so now instead of a walk in the woods with the dog, it's a jog. Well, a walk, jog, walk for now. I ran about 0.1 miles this morning. I'll keep adding on distance a little bit at a time until I can get up to a comfortable two miles or so. I like running on the soft forest paths. Running on concrete hurts my knees, but the earth and the uneven ground make for a comfortable challenge.
