Dreams, Dreams the Special Dreams

Went to Providence on Saturday to see ezrarashkae. Did dinner with a mob then back to Ezra's to chat and do a super quick and dirty playtest of my game system. One of the playtesters, having good experience and a fresh semester of college under his belt pointed out the system may be unbalance around skills, as they have strong utility. I had thought that this was balanced against the potence of the traits and powers, but it's definitely something that I'll be thinking about.

Sunday however was a wash. I had foolishly thought that I was running my long-standing game on Sunday, but apparantly I was on crack. And terriergirl's plans were also messed, so instead we went to Indian Buffet for lunch, took Dargo to the dog park and then saw Igor. As usual we went to Little India, because we like them best. But apparantly Sunday afternoons are the time when all the South Asian families come to eat, and the food reflected that. There were dishes there that I had never seen before tasty, bitter, spicy, youghurty, nutty, delectable dishes. I even tried the unusual desert that was out, but it didn't stand up to the rest of the food. Apparantly a "deep fried wheat flour ball in syrup" tastes exactly like a soggy, plain doughnut hole in sugar water.

Then to the dog park for the 20 minutes it didn't rain yesterday. Dargo got his running around time with other dogs, including his battle-buddy Hunter. Apparantly he has friends everwhere, from the little puggle at Petco to the golden down the street. Should I be jealous that my dog's friends all live close by while mine are scattered to the winds. After our compressed romp and Terrier deciding that she wanted to take Hunter home too, we jetted off to the Movies.

Igor was a good film: fast paced, silly and completely over the top. As usual, half the jokes were geared to the adult sitting next to the five year old, including the retro soundtrack. Apparantly, having a five year old was a requirement to enter, but somehow we sneaked in with out one. It was put out by a new-to-feature-length animation studio from France: Sparx. The voice acting was excelent: with John Cusack, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, and Eddy Izzard on deck how can you go wrong. But the film lacked the deeper heart-tugging of the Pixar movies we've come to know and love. And in a field where every second of film costs beaucoup de bucks, some scenes and exchanges came across as rushed. But it was an excellent first-time effort, and made a good Sunday afternoon time killer.

Today it's back to the grind. With luck, I'll have my epic-fail from last week all un-failed by the end of the day today. Wish me luck.

not so guilty pleasures, game, friends, dargo
