Tell me about your bathroom(s) floor and walls

We have been talking very seriously about having both upstairs bathrooms fixed up. And actually the kitchen too, but one thing at a time.

Our bathroom is literally falling apart and bathtub in the hall bathroom is painted over and downright nasty such that I might think twice about even standing it and can't imagine anyone actually taking a bath in it. And everything else in the hall bathroom is just very old, though the wallpaper is actually not peeling yet in that bathroom.

But, its not like we're tearing down anything nice. Everything is at best very old.

My initial instinct, as always, was to just go with minimal cheapest. Personally, I'm actually fine with it everything as it is except for the fact that the structure of the vanity in our bathroom could buckle any day now from the weight of its sink top. I'm serious, its really on its last leg. And rather than do things piecemeal.... its probably cheaper to go for it.

In my mind, I've accepted the $14,000 cost of having the two bathrooms done (just one estimate so far). The thing that bothers me most now is the thought of a white tile floor. White tile... just has no character at all. Our floor right now... is some pinkish pattern of squares and rectangles... I have no idea what its made of. Its not a style or color I'd choose, but its got character, just not the right kind. White tile might go with everything.... but don't people want some character to their bathroom? Or do they prefer the neutrality of white tile? Honestly... I'm thinking mostly of resale value.... afraid that whatever I do, it will just be wrong, and whoever buys the house from me will just want to re-do it anyway (that's been my handy excuse for avoiding this for so many years).

So, if you've got a few minutes here... help me out by saying a few things about your bathroom (especially floors and walls) and also your feelings on white tile floors in bathrooms.
