so, this christmas i'm having some major difficulties getting into the spirit (but none getting into the spirits). at work we were all given standard issue santa hats, and instructed to be merry, but i don't think that jollity is something that can be enforced, so i put mine on the computer monitor at a rakish angle and delegated my good cheer duties.

the australian sign language for "computer" is like being a tiny wildcat. you have to look, i can't describe.

i am playing a lot of a rpg called Morrowind (for "a lot" read: "only stopping to eat, work and perform vital natural functions". i just love to harvest plants. which is very bizarre, when you think about it: i am addicted to making a computer simulation of a person run around a simulated landscape collecting simulated herbs and making potions, so i can advance my character and learn how to make better potions. and there's no way in heck i would be interested in actually doing that personally, so why do i find it so enthrallingly addictive? i think the ting that i like best about the game is that you don't have to play the game any particular way or in any sequential order, it's very...freeing.

i planted some seeds about 2 months ago now, and i haven't had a single flower out of any of them, but i have managed to grow an enormous cloud of evil bitey midgy things. whenever i open the front door a bunch of them sneak inside and begin a campaign of remorseless irritation and bitination. but i used up all my spray'n'wipe on the ants (which is a complete nother kettle of fish).

worlds colide this sunday as my parents meet the boy's parents over my birthday dinner. will i survive to recount the horror?

stay tuned.
