Showered and changed into pajamas, Ema emerged from the bathroom while towel-drying her hair. She felt calmer. 'It's amazing what some food and a shower can do...' Ema didn't feel completely at ease. It was impossible to, in this place, but at least she was calm enough to pass for normal.

Ema gave her hair a few more rubs of the towel, then hung the towel on the door knob to the bathroom. She padded to the couch and pulled a comb out of one of the bags. Noticing her sister, she smiled. It was instinctive, really. "Any luck on the door?"

"No, not yet." Lana glanced over to her sister, managing a smile in return. It had been years since she actually got a chance to be close to Ema again, and now with her trial all over with it was like she had the chance.

Overlooking the fact that she should be in jail and that they were in a very creepy place, anyway.

Deciding to skip on telling Ema the part about the chain looking like it was cut, Lana glanced around the dark room. "It'll take too long to try to fix it with no tools. I think it'd be easier if we just shoved something in front of it to keep it closed."

Lana was smiling. Given, it wasn't the most earnest of smiles (and Ema didn't expect one, really, given the circumstances), but it was a massive improvement over the caustic treatment she'd received for the two years following SL-9.

The Lana she loved was back. They were sisters again.

Ema nodded a little in agreement. Some security was better than nothing. "What we can do is wedge a pole or something in, something like this..." She walked over to the door and spread out her arms to demonstrate, touching a hand to the door and to the wall diagonal from it. "This way, if we need out in a hurry, all we need to do is remove the pole." It wasn't a complicated idea, nor was it the most secure, but it seemed better than blocking their only exit.

Lana nodded her head, amused by how excited Ema was at the idea. "Alright! So, we just need to find a pole of some kind.." By 'we', of course, she meant 'her', as Lana walked into the bedroom to peek into the closets.

She was gone for a few moments before her voice was heard from the bedroom. "Ah.. here we go." She emerged with a broom, a rather ratty one, but it was a broom. Moving to stand by the door, she considered it a moment, before glancing over to Ema.

"Could you help me with this?" It was, after all, her idea.

A broom wasn't exactly a sturdy thing to wedge the door shut with, but it would have to do. "Sure, I can help!" Ema took the broomstick from her sister, noticing the bandages on her hand.

"What happened to your hand, Lana?" she asked, taking her sister's hand in her own and examining it. The bandages seemed familiar, but Ema couldn't imagine why.

Lana glanced down at her hand, recalling the bandage which was certainly worn in court. How could someone as observant as Ema forgot what it was for? She mentioned what it was. Setting the broom down, she glanced almost curiously at Ema for the moment, before she replied.

"I cut my hand. I thought I mentioned it at the trial today?"

Ema must have misheard.

"Trial? Today? The one where you were tried for the murder of Detective Goodman, and Mr. Wright defended you...?"

She searched her sister's face for something, anything. "Lana, that trial was over a year ago."

"Yes." Lana nodded, wondering why Ema was asking her such a weird question.

And then the next thing she said really confused her. "What are you talking about, Ema? It was today.. I was being brought to the station after the trial when I came over here."

"But... it couldn't have been. You're serving your sentence, and I've been in Europe this past year. We've written letters. You called me on my birthday. Mr. Edgeworth disappeared for awhile, and everyone thought he was dead." None of this made any sense. Could it be that her sister honestly didn't remember any of it?

Could it be possible that she honestly came to Spiral right after her trial?

What about the past year? Lana had been there... hadn't she?

Lana felt an odd feeling, one of anxiety, that hung heavily over her chest as Ema spoke. It didn't make sense. Ema wasn't a liar. There was no way she could have made all this up on the fly.

"I'm sorry.." She said after she finished speaking, shaking her head. Was this some kind of joke? Was this not her sister? It had to be. She looked and talked just like her.

Lana bit her thumb as she set the lantern down, walking back to the couch. This was too much. She needed to sit down.

Lana's expression stabbed into Ema's heart. She hadn't meant to wound her sister--she was just trying to jog her memory ( ... )

Lana wasn't necessarily upset by what she heard, just rather pensive. It didn't make sense to her, and when confronted with something she didn't understand she would dwell over it until some meaning came from it.

The statement from Ema sounded far fetched. Completely. However, it was proven that something as weird as randomly appearing in the strange world they were stuck in could only be explained with other weird statements, right?

"That.. certainly seems like an accurate deduction, Ema." Lana said quietly, mulling it over as probably the only thing that could have happened. Having the weight of Ema's hand on hers, she returned her eyes to her sister and managed another smile.

"Then I certainly have a lot to catch up on with you." At least it would be something other than their current situation to distract themselves with. "How's Europe?"

The smile was back.

Crisis averted.

"Europe's really nice! I'm still such a tourist, though. I travel a lot, trying to see everything--what's the point in being abroad if you're not going to take advantage, right?" Ema paused, and her face seemed to show a bit of sheepishness. She smiled, a bit shyly. "It gets pretty lonely, though. I look forward to hearing from you more than anything else."

Ema was about to continue--she had a lot to share about her studies and how well they've been going--when her phone went off. The young scientist jumped, and she fumbled through the pocket of the coat in her lap, fishing out her cell.

A text message? In this place?

Ema pressed a few buttons and opened the message, and instantly wished she hadn't.

'I'm Watching You.'Matt. Matt Engarde ( ... )

Lana nodded, listening intently to her sister speak. Due to the constraints of her job, Lana never got to travel much. Hearing Ema talk about it, especially hearing how excited she got, made Lana want to enjoy it with her. Maybe some day, they'd be able to go on vacation out of the country together.

If.. they ever returned home.

The sound of the text message didn't entirely confuse Lana, as she didn't know of the reception issues. However, seeing Ema's face change from happy to downright scared was alarming to Lana.

"Ema! Ema, what's wrong?!" The panic was hard to mask, the familiar feeling of wanting to protect her younger sister from whatever evils existed.

Ema's head snapped up to look at her sister, the tears actually falling from her eyes now. She suddenly wished she had opened up earlier about what happened back in that apartment--when they had first arrived, Ema simply ate and showered without uttering three whole sentences.

Now, the words came in a rush. "It's Matt. I met him when I first got here, and he was really nice until I wouldn't sleep with him and then he got really scary and he tried to do things to me and then he stopped but I was scared so I sent out a call for help and Mr. Wright and Mr. Edgeworth came and they helped me and Mr. Wright got hurt and I left and I came back and pretended to want to sleep with Matt so I could get close enough and then I maced him in the face and that's when Mr. Edgeworth and I left and met you and he's watching, he sent me this message, he's here somehow and he's going to kill me for hurting him, Lana. He ( ... )

Lana goes from surprised to bewildered to totally angry to terrified in such a short span of time as she listened to Ema ramble on about her entire stay so far. The woman felt extremely helpless, and all she could think of doing was reaching out to Ema and pulling her into a hug after she broke down into sobs.

The thought of someone trying to violate her sister made her very pissed off, for lack of better emotions to use, but she couldn't do anything now, especially if he was as dangerous as Ema's words implied.

"You're not alone, Ema. You have friends here, and I'm here. We won't let anything happen to you."
