"If anyone were at service, they would never come out."

Aerith tilted her head, joining the newcomers along the path, stepping forward and blocking their way, her hands clasped together as she stood her ground, trying not to look like she'd harm them. "Please don't approach the Church."

Maybe taking a walk was a good idea after all.

The foreign voice stopped Ky in his tracks. He instinctively reached for his sword; as on edge as he was, he couldn't help the gesture.

He felt relieved when she stepped out, but he didn't drop his guard.

"You are...?"

She started slightly, then smiled at the woman. "Hello there. I'm Rose." She glanced at the church. "We were going there to see if anyone could tell us where we were."

"I'm Aerith Gainsborough," she inclined her head towards both of them - an odd pair they were, by appearance and demeanor alone. She smiled, trying to set them at ease.

She turned her head, looking up at the massive construct that was the Church. "You're in the City. I don't know what it used to be called, but that's what we call it now." She looked back at them both. "Are you new?"

Well, they did intend to meet someone to ask questions. Here was someone, who seemed to be well informed about this place.

"My name's Ky Kiske." He relaxed his posture out of his guarded position. She seemed like a very pleasant young lady, and her smile was convinving.

"We are new, in a sense," he answered. "We don't know how we appeared in this 'City', or why. Do you live here?"

"I was going to the church to give offering to Leto," she showed the grocery bag full of things. "And I ended up on some stairs. Is.... Is this one of Leto's miracles? I though he only worked through Father Cornello."

At least the man wasn't close to spearing her. That... would have been messy. "It's nice to meet you, Ky, Rose."

"I'm not a native, if that's what you mean. I've been living here for a short while now, and I've never met anyone new." She glanced back behind her and frowned at the dark shadows of the church. "This isn't a miracle, and it's not a sign of good luck." She gestured with her hands. "But this isn't the place for us to talk. Come with me, we need to move away from here."

The young Miss Rose was quite a peculiar person. The 'Father' was mentioned again, as well as 'miracles'. Was she some sort of nun? Maybe she was just a volunteer or a devoted attendee.

Aerith's words troubled him. He briefly debated the pros and cons of going with her, but eventually decided on listening to her. If things turned out ugly, it would be his responsibility to make up for his decision.

He nodded and waited for her to lead the way.

One last glance at the church, and Rose nodded. She still didn't understand what was going on. Maybe this was a test? Father Cornello had said there would be tests, and that she'd have to be strong if she wanted Kain back.

Well, she would be.

"Where do you live?" she asked out of curiosity.

Definitely mismatched. She looked between the blond man and his companion, and wondered at Rose's naivety.

Aerith hoped, that somehow, Rose would be able to keep that innocence without it being tainted completely. "It's a bit of a walk," she said, smiling and gesturing away from the Church and towards a row of houses. "It won't be much, though, but I think I'll be able to feed you."

She started walking, trusting them to keep up.

Ky walked beside her, his strides allowing him to keep up easily. As they made their way towards her home, his curiosity got the better of him.

"You said you weren't a native here," he mentioned. "Then how did you come to this place?"

She thought about what Aerith had just said. "We...can use what's in here, if you like." Leto preferred food offerings, so maybe she could use them without fear? "Where did you come from?"

"That would be really great." She nodded, smiling at the other woman. "Food doesn't come easily to this place. I grow what I can, but they still need time to mature..."

"I'm from a planet we call Gaia. It's a lot different from this City." She gestured a bit, her bangles making some noise as she did so. "I came here by... accident, so to speak. I'm sure you've had a similar experience."

"I'll help you get settled in, and I'll tell you what I do know." She twisted around, walking backwards, all so she could look at them both. "We're all in this together, so it's best we look out for each other, right?"

He nodded wordlessly, though he was still confused. He didn't know exactly 'what' they were 'in together', but that would likely be answered soon enough. He appreciated her helpfulness.

"What is this place? I just showed up on the steps, and this place is...disorienting."

That was the best way she could put it, really.

"It is, isn't it?" Aerith closed her eyes, blocking away the loud screaming in her head, reminded of them now that they were discussing the City. "I believe this is place completely different from our worlds."

She had heard of it, of planets, many planets in the universe, but she never thought of going herself, despite her ancestry. "But I just don't know where." She gestured to the neighborhood, close to her garden but far enough from the Church.

"This place is good enough, though I'm not sure if anyone will overhear."
