The sound of the real world echoed in his ears for some unknown reason. The noise that came from everyday Tokyo seemed to surround him, and if he concentrated hard enough, he could almost spot the crowd that welled over the streets like a human tsunami, drowning everything in chatter, smog and dirt, but also laughter, hope and love.
After coming to the City, there seemed to be very little laughter about, hope was scarce and love even more so. The rules of everyday society seemed to have melted away, leaving behind a strange kind of society where only survival of the fittest seemed to count.
And for some reason, he had managed to adapt to this new environment, as had many more with him; zombie reports, disgusting creepy crawlers that just shouldn't be, even though they still managed to spook him, seemed more normal nowadays, for a lack of a better word, and the teenager wondered absentmindedly if he would find the everyday Tokyo normal when and if he came back.
Life, and human nature, sure were funny things, weren't they?
As the boy stirred in his drink, he glanced out the window again.
The magic was gone; all that was left were the dark and dreary streets of the City.
"Cheers..."
