Canon Background
Personality: Under normal circumstances, Simon is a very calm individual. He rarely raises his voice and takes most things in stride. He's also not much for giving others a hard time, and lets Rossiu do that for him.
As a matter of fact, Simon is fairly lazy, quite possibly because of Rossiu's support. He hates signing papers, lounges about his office, and leaves duties to Rossiu very frequently.
Simon still maintains some of the innocence he had during his youth. He tends to think the best of people, and this gets taken advantage of more than once during the course of the series, the most notable time being when Rossiu character assassinated him to quell the masses. He's also shy and innocent when it comes to love. He loved Nia likely since he had his epiphany, and he never proposes to her until seven years down the road. When Nia, after getting confused by the wording he uses and turns him down, calls him back to tell him that she will marry him, he literally leaps for joy.
Despite all this, Simon carries with him a great deal of wisdom and the discipline to do what is absolutely necessary. When he learns that Nia will eventually disappear after the Anti-Spirals are defeated, he still presses forth with his battle and resigns himself to the fact that he'll only have Nia for a short while longer. Then, when Nia does disappear, and Gimmy suggests using Spiral energy to bring back all their lost loved ones, Simon replies that it's better to leave them dead because to revive them unwillingly would only impede the progress of those still around.
Simon does carry Kamina's influence around, too. When Simon goes into battle, he is no longer laid-back but rather on the edge of his seat at all times and leading the charge into battle. A far cry from the timid boy he used to be, Simon has become a charismatic leader and a great hero. He can be downright reckless at times, but usually comes up with a plan as he fights. He also takes over Kamina's role as the primary source of manly inspirational speeches and facepunching people when they get counterproductively emo. And he never, ever abandons his friends. Despite all that Rossiu did to him, Simon still does everything in his power to stop Rossiu from taking his own life in what he sees as an atonement.
Finally, Simon seems to like food. A lot. Between him, Yoko, Kamina, Gimmy, Darry, and Leeron, the six of them can down an entire banquet's worth of food (well more than what six people would normally be able to handle alone) in a matter of mere minutes. He also eats plate after plate of Nia's food (also worth noting is that Nia's cooking is so bad it sends everyone to the hospital but Simon, who actually enjoys it).
Mecha Description: Robot Name: Gurren-Lagann
Overview: Gurren-Lagann is a combination of two Ganmen, named Gurren and Lagann. Its specs and abilities are balanced, but due to Lagann's nature, Gurren-Lagann usually surpasses the average Ganmen in most, if not all, categories. Despite the fact that Gurren-Lagann is a combination of two Ganmen, it only needs a pilot in Lagann in order to be controlled fully.
Maneuverability: Gurren-Lagann can go almost anywhere. It is capable of fighting on the ground, in the water, and in outer space, and is one of the few mechs capable of burrowing. However, Gurren-Lagann is, at this point in time, incapable of flight.
Weapons: Gurren-Lagann combines Gurren's base fighting techniques with Lagann's drills for an amazingly efficient attack arsenal. Gurren fights mainly barehanded, but Lagann enables its punches, kicks, and other physical attacks to be augmented with drills. Gurren also has a pair of sunglasses which can be removed and wielded like a sword or a boomerang. Gurren-Lagann can also create long, narrow drills for hitting faraway enemies, or it can launch drill-shaped missiles.
Gurren-Lagann's main signature technique is the Giga Drill Breaker. For this attack, Gurren-Lagann removes Gurren's sunglasses and throws them. The sunglasses split into two, which then immobilize the target by impaling its hands and feet and stretching them out. Gurren-Lagann then forms several drills along its right arm before condensing them into one massive drill, and launches itself at its target, usually blowing a hole straight through the middle.
