It’s that time of year again, the beginning of the end, or more commonly referred to as the holidays. As wonderful as the holidays might be, it also happens to be the most stressful and depressing time of the year for some. Today I want to discuss the one factor of stress, the holiday party. Now if you are putting one on, be it for family, friends, or co-workers it will be stressful for you, parties always are.
How about the people that have to go to the parties?
Here is a story for you all. Today I get to work and see my office holiday party has been cancelled and moved to a Friday afternoon. We will close the office early and spend the afternoon conversing and spreading holiday cheer. I like that idea, I was gonna have to be at work anyway, so why not party? I decide to call and let my significant other hear the good news. Her reply, “great there was another party that day (the day my party was suppose to be), now we can go to yours and the other one, how nice."
Oh yes how nice.
Add one more to the list.
Why complain what is one more party?
My girlfriend works for a residential housing community, who will be having a staff party, and party for all the residents. Yes, two more holiday parties. This is on top of two others her had already told me about. Add them up and there aren’t enough weeks between today and Christmas to account for all the parties, so there is gonna have to be some weekly overlap.
Now I’m not saying that you should all stay home and be a stooge, but do you need to go to upwards of 7 Christmas parties to do so, I hardly think so. Now one can not blame the parties for holiday stress syndrome. Numerous factors contribute to the burden many people feel during the holidays, but parties are something you can control, unlike the sheep wandering the malls. So when you start to feel the holiday stress this season, don’t forget to consider the holiday parties.
