Responsibility? What's that?

It turns out that I have all kinds of time off right now and then at the end of June. I can potentially work during that time for SFUSD, but right now it's looking like the child development centers don't need too many subs. Therefore, I'm taking advantage and taking some time to just chill and relax. And yes, procrastinate on actual work I'm supposed to do, like grading the last stacks of work that my 7th graders did before I stopped student teaching, and working on a research paper. But hell, I literally have two assignments left to turn in and the stack of grading to return to my master teacher, and that's it for the credential program. I had my last class ever last night. It's pretty much the last time I'll ever go to a college class, unless somewhere down the road I decide to get a Master's.

What does this make me feel like doing? Celebrating, and travelling! And, as awesomeness would have it, I have been doing really well with my money for the past six months or so, and I have a tad extra to spend right now. Well, a bit more than a tad. But a tad is what I am spending. I'm going to take next weekend to go to Chicago and go to CUBE. Plenty of my friends are going, so I'll know people there and be able to hang out with friends, and I know some people who live there, who may (hopefully) be able to show me around a bit (hint, hint, artdude75!) It's kind of one of those outdoors blues festivals and then at night they have dances indoors on wood floors. I'm not a fan of the outdoors dancing stuff, because a) I get cold easily and weather can be a bitch; and b) I don't like dancing on concrete/asphalt/non-wood surfaces because my legs are old and get tired easily on such surfaces. Because of this, I'm hoping that my days might be spent sightseeing instead of doing the blues festival, but I may end up having to do the blues festival anyway. If so, I'll just try to socialize more than dance at those things. But I have never been to Chicago before, so it'd be awesome to get to sightsee a bit. The entire trip is costing me under $400, too, so I'm pretty happy with this choice.

Of course, I am also going to Portland the weekend of July 8-10, because my friend Karen Maria is having a lindy and blues exchange for her birthday. Yep, that's right. It'll be a pretty kickass birthday party, with Barbara Morrison and all. I'm excited cos I've never been to Portland before. I will also get to see Aaron for the first time since I graduated from college (in December 2009), so that'll be interesting; he was already going to be in Portland that weekend for a game. I'd also like to hang out with onelife_left and jadeejf if either of them have a chance to be in Portland that weekend. :)

So, right now I'm pretty happy with the fact that I'm getting to enjoy my summer a bit and travel and see friends. I'd like to travel farther, but I need to save up more money before that can happen. I also still don't know what I'll be doing in the fall job-wise, and that's a bit disconcerting. But I think if nothing else, I can probably get a job at a school as a permanent paraprofessional, or at least maybe get my core sub job back. We'll see... I'm trying not to stress too much.

Now... to try to get grading done. Blah.

procrastination, yay, relaxation, aaron, work, friends, lindy exchanges, blues dancing, money, parties, school, travels
