I got the place in San Francisco!!!! You know, the place I was really interested in last time I updated? I went and looked at it, and loved it and decided to take it! :D I talked with the landlord yesterday and he's fine with me waiting a month to move in and paying for only half of April's rent, which saves me some money. :) The only "drawbacks" are that it doesn't have a common living area on the floor I'll be living on, and there's also no kitchen to speak of. The lack of a common living area is a good thing in my opinion cos I'd rather just keep to myself anyway, and I was kind of looking to live alone if possible, anyway. I'm tired of roommate drama especially with the fact that it looks like my last roommate has now blocked me from seeing stuff on his facebook now, and I have no fucking clue why. I wrote him a message asking what was up and why it would be that way when other friends of mine say they can see his wall, but he hasn't responded, so I'm assuming I somehow did something to piss him off. Enough about that, but suffice it to say I will be glad to not really have roommates to deal with. I will be living in the same floor as the family's nanny, and she is Russian and quiet and doesn't speak much English anyway, so I have a feeling we'll get along just fine. The girl who lives right now in the room I'm moving into seems like she's in a very similar life situation as I'm in, except she can't afford to live there anymore cos her hours at work got cut. I feel bad for her cos she says she loves living there, but hey, her loss is my gain I guess. The room is nice and spacious with wood flooring which I LOVE, and it has a spectacular view of the city and the bay off in the distance, cos the house is up on a hill right next to a canyon. I'm only going to be charged maybe half of what I should have to pay of utilities, which is awesome, so this place will really be affordable for me with my new budget from my new job. :D I can't wait to live in the city!
I know I had concern over having to commute to school if I go to school in Hayward, but it's really no longer of a commute than I've been making to work each day lately anyway, and hopefully I won't have classes every single day of the week, so it won't be too bad. I'd rather live in SF than in Hayward anyway, and this place was just way too nice to not want. Oh, and about the kitchen... that is a bit of a drawback, but since I don't really cook anyway, I can get away with just investing in a mini fridge and getting an electric water pitcher for tea and other things that require hot water, and maybe a mini oven for baking. Shouldn't be too expensive, especially with Craigslist.
I should be moving either the weekend of April 10th or April 17th, depending on when I can get the most help from friends. And ideally, I will find another friend who has a truck who can help me out with hauling my stuff from Berkeley. If not, U-Haul is relatively cheap, and Rudy has already offered to help pay for it if I need.
I wish I had more pictures to show off of the place, but for now you'll have to do with just a Google map street view:
Click here and go to the street view. It just shows the front of the house, which shows two stories, but the house is actually three stories. I'll be living on what looks like the ground floor from the front of the house, but there is also a lower floor underneath it because the ground slopes down sharply so it's three stories. There are two guys living on the bottom floor, the landlord and his family on the top floor, and the nanny and I will be on the middle floor. Once I start moving in I'll share more pictures, like of the inside and of the view I will have from my window, but for now this is all I have. :)
That's about it for now. Just wanted to share my exciting news!
